Candle Wax???

My friend uses emergency candle wax to wax his skis? Then on top of that he uses a ruler to scrap?Please tell me there is something wrong with that or is he just a baller on a budget to the extreme?

Tryed it once, to be honest i couldn't tell the difference, ive heard of people uesing bees wax as well, no idea how that would turn out
