Candle Wax

Does it work on bases? I'm assuming not, but I have a faint hope it will. I have no real wax, and my bases are very dry. I found a stick of wax, and an iron. Should I try it? Or will it destroy my bases?

i have always waxed my shitty summer ramp skis with candle wax, it works but if your wanting them to last i wouldent do it

exactly, I use it on my summer skis, but if you really dont have wax ten just use it once, it wont harm them just once

Buy some proper wax online for like $4 or whatever it costs. And if you're using an ordinary clothes iron it will suck, and don't plan to ever, ever use the iron on clothes ever again.

Based on the original question, I'm wondering if you might be better off just getting some paste wax and rubbing it in.

once won't do anything to a base. when I was a gaper I used candle wax and it did clean the bade but didn't make it go faster.

I agree that candle wax is a terrible idea. The wax is more a delivery system for the Hydrocarbons or Fluorocarbons that make the ski glide because they are water repellant. So all you are going to do is melt in a sticky and worthless substance.

Once you've used a good quality waxing iron you'll see what I mean - they have a solid base so the wax kinda pools under the base way better than a normal iron where it gets all up in the holes. Plus the base of them is heated more consistently whereas a clothes iron will usually have hot and cold spots.
