Candide's Xgame Pipe Skiis

This is kind of a picky, pointless thread, but the announcers said that Salomon built those skiis especially for Candide and the xgames, i was wondering if anyone knew much about that, how they differed from normal 1080s (looked like same top sheet, different base graphics), if any of the diff. tech would be made public, etc... thx

-If people don't want 'Posers' in their sport they should quit skiing and take up knitting. I highly doubt that anyone 'Poses' as a knitter. -Jibtech

i dont know the answer to your question.. but it brings up an interesting thing... alot of the armada crew left salomon because of their (salomons) lack of dedication to freestyle skiing... now here they go creating the first pipe spacific ski ever (if you dont count the poachers back when)for two of their skiers... seems dedicated to me...

-all you need are drums to start a dance party-

yah i was wondering about those too. candide was the only one who had them CR didn't he just had regular 1080s.

actually cr did have them, and i believe the difference from the regular teneighties is that the skis are shorter, not as wide and they are stiffer.

its also interesting that the salomon riders were the only ones boosting massive airs in the pipe. I mean everyone was up in the air but candide and CR and i can't remember the name of the young kid who was on the green 1080s were way above everyone else and we all know jon olsson can pop hella high (ie worlds highest air) sounds weird to me

the magazine is called 'POWDER' cool! - my stupid non-skiing friend

yeah candides skis just had a black bottom base and cr's had little yellow salomon signs on them i think.

wait candides were black bases with little yellow salomon signs at each end and i'm pretty sure CR had the normal 1080 big salomon base.

no CR had the same bases i just got done watching it. this makes me think..skis do make a difference as far as how well you perform. someone earlier was saying that tanner could win gold on ANY pair of skis, i dont think so. those salomons had to have something to do with it.

At Candide's level of skiing, skis make a difference. At a lower level of skiing, they make less of a difference. Wasn't there some rumour going around about a Candide pro model a while ago? Centermounted 1080?

cr and candide both has the pipe skis, they were the only two skiers who had them, according to douglas... they both had black bases with the salomon logos.... they also look like they have a pretty extreme sidecut... here's a pic

I'll say the same thing in this thread that I did in the other:

Word in the biz is that they will never be a full-production ski exactly as they are now. They're wood core (holy shit! Salomon made a wood core ski??) and they have to mill the core in the 'Spaceframe' shape. I dunno why they don't just ditch that for this particular ski, you'd think milling out the tip and tail would make it pretty fragile. On top of that, it's pretty damn expensive to mill the core like that for every ski. So the plan is that they'll give those skis to their pros and it'll look just like the 1080 and everyone will go 'Hey, those are the X-games skis' and buy them. They've got mega-sidecut (114-75-109 was the figure I saw) and are pretty stiff for those mega-boost airs. You saw how little they flexed when CR bailed, and he bailed hard.

the skis look cool, on tv the quicksilver logo on candides skis seemed like it was printed on, and cr's skis had the smith logo in the same exact spot, maybe they actually were printed on

...and she's buying a chairway to heaven

don't be so naive as to think that the skis the pros ski on are the same ones you buy in the stores. comsetics may look the same, but don't be fooled. often (but not always) ski companies make special skis for their athletes and make them look like the ones you buy in the shops to get you to buy them.

Yeah, those skis were super stiff. I was there with my camera and when we watch them jump in slow-mo. you can see the huge rebound, and tanner's number was 420, haha.

the skis Candide was on in the pipe have race bases on them, so they were faster.

yea it is pretty cool now with salomon, they are developing a prototype ski every month for candide and cr to test

why wouldn't salomon just use a regular wood core for the 1080's anyways? it can't be that much more expensive.

Candides skis: Orange tops, black bases with yellow salomon symbols on tip and tail

CR's skis: Orange tops, black bases with yellow salomon symbols just on the tips.

Weeds gay.

i talked to the rep today, all that he told me was that it has salomons most expensive race back base on them, not the crapppy base that the rest of the tens are. as far as side cut goes, im not sure, i will try and find out tomarrow. On a slightly differant note, plan on seeing a new 1080 pro model out next year for top level guys only. Greg, (the salomon rep) told me that next year they will be making twins that are really high quality and will only be availible through sponcership and shop employee form. These skis will never be on any shop wall. as far as the stats go, i dont know anything, all i know is that these skis will be the cats ass. basicly it will be like a race stock ski, only availible for a few. even in 2005 these skis will be availible for select few.

when they interviewed candide and asked him why he did so much better than last year he said 'i don't know, maybe different wax'

Coyote:

Why not go wood core? It's LOTTA LOTTA MORE EXPENSIVE. Unless you make your skis in China *cough*k2*cough* What, you thought they were just gonna give everyone a super discount on the PE?

About the new skis, I second what the dude above me said. It's only gonna be on pro forms. So, shop employees, ski patrollers, and pros are the only people you're gonna see them on. And having a race base would suck donkey balls for anything other than ONLY pipe, that stuff is so easily damaged.

to linejibber, 420 is weed day, tahts whats so special about it... and yea when Candide said

'i dont know, maybe different wax' i personally thought that was hilarious

yea when i met him at the games, i was like so what kind of skis are you on, he was like ohhhhh theyyyyre thiesse ne new skiis, but i still understood, and it was pretty cool

keep your head screwed on tight

yeah, but 1080's aren't that much cheaper than wood core skis (like Head, Volkl, Armada, or Line) i know that wood core is a bit more $, but for what the 1080 retails for, foam can't be that cheap either... cause 1080's ain't that cheap.

ok for those of you who have a problem with k2 and companies that make wood core skis- FUCK OFF. and i cant believe that you think that companies make different skis for their athletes all the time- in this case, yes, but what about other salomons skis, like the pocket rockets, pilot skis, etc.? still the same! and k2 doesnt make special seth pistols for morrison, they're the exact same. my god- dont think you know every fucking thing about the industry when you DONT! for those of you that have a problem with foam cores- why? the pocket rocket is one of the most popular skis on the market, and it has a foam core. theres my rant, please try to become educated before you put up mindless posts

well, seeing as wood is stronger than foam, i'll pay the little bit more to get a pair of skis that last me longer than 2 months on the hill.

late

Just Huck It.

first off, Salomon2003 dude chill. and second off, race bases aren't that easily damaged. i used to have salomon poweraxe's with a pro-form race base and they held up in everything.

....west

yeah i got a little pissed off there, but everyone gets so uptight about the fact that k2 manufactures their skis in china- they still hold up, and my skis are doing just fine right now (seth pistols). wood may be stronger than foam, but foam will still last you on the hill- if you break it, the'll warranty it. so quit debating the wood and foam thing- if you like the way it rides, then go with it!

weed definately IS gay. your just a bunch of lush's that need a fucking drug to feel good. Get some friends you fucking faggots.

i was just talking to a guy who knows cr, and he said when cr rode them he boasted 6 feet more than what he would of, and he didn't even do anything. he said they are super stiff, major side cut and will cost about $1200 canadian and very few will be made

big Teddy you are a fag. You don't see anyone here calling you a faggot because you DON'T smoke, so why do you feel that you should be able to voice your opinion on those of us who do?

i had my old teneghtys for 2 seasons, core was fine, ride my PEs four times, snap them in half. foam vs wood. but my PEs rode way way better than my teneghtys, i would choose them anyh day

yea son

Why are 1080s more expensive and STILL have a foam core?

It's like Bose. It's not better, it's just marketed better.

Salomon- you should read a post before you stick that corncob up your ass and respond. I was NOT complaining about wood cores, I will not ride a ski without one. I was complaining that K2 moved their factory to China. (1) I don't particularly like giving my money to a country that will probably someday attack us and (2) I feel a lot better with a ski that I know was made by someone who was payed more than $.50 an hour.

Salomon's right. The foam core is not the coffee cup grade of material that you're thinking of. They are not built cheap and you are obviously just hold a prejudice for the things in life you don't comprehend. Feel free to have an opinion, but at the same time realize others are gonna have one also.

what they didn't say on TV is that Candide broke a pair during training - that's what I heard from someone who was there.

Douglas was pretty funny though. 'must be those special skis' soloman this soloman that... getting his plug in every chance he got. 'he has a chance because he has those special skis too'

lol,

At any rate, I just saw someone's heel piece break out of a pair of 3yr old ripsticks.. thought the screws had stripped. Nope it turns out that the inside of the ski had disintigrated (foam core).. Dynastar wouldn't replace them.
