Candide Thovex competing in the World Cup!

Seriously he did gave some hints in the past few month ... With his last edits shredding park... With him saying he would love to ski park again.. maybe compete why not etc etc... But this, actually signing up for the world cup is a BIG FUCKING NEWS.

Why would he do that if he wasn't contemplating giving a shot at the Olympics? I am pretty sure he'll try his luck and fuck it, it's CANDIDE.. The dude came back from a back injury to win the FWT on his first try. You never know what can happen with him seriously.

Think about it... How awesome would it be if he did land a few run and did a top 10 in the next world cup?

HOW AMAZING would it be if he was picked to be at the Olympics for the French ?!

And even if there is a chance in 1000 right now.. How fucking mind blowing would it be if motherfucking CANDIDE THOVEX would go on to get a fucking gold in SOCHI?

IMAGINE !

So fuck yeah, go Candide ! Show'em youngsters how it's done.

I'll be very curious to see what level he's riding at in a Slopestyle course. I can imagine him absolutely slaying it, but I also know that he's older now and has gone through some pretty gnar injuries.

If there's someone that could do it though, its definitely Candide.
 
Gotta love the camaraderie in skiing. Not too many sports where the top guys are excited to "compete together" and taking stoked pics with each other.

Also pretty rad that Candide is as laid back and respectable as he is. What a class act and a fkn KILLER skier, I don't think there's a single person out there that isn't pulling for him. He's our generation's Plake for sure.
 
agreed on both counts. i had the pleasure of meeting him last year and he was the chillest motherfucker around. it was like the opposite of those stories where people meet their childhood idol and are super disappointed
 
Based on the two recent videos that have popped up recently, I don't doubt that we can expect anything but awesome from him and that he can hang with the young kids.
 
Pure speculation but here's my thoughts:

Rail game doesn't really matter in these types of comps, I mean it does but honestly if you can 270 on 270 out on rail features, you can make it to the finals. I'm not saying you can win, but make it to the finals. Killing the rails will help you win, but if you can get through them tricking on/off and not fall...you're money.

Candide is one of the more fluid skiers I've ever seen and no doubt he can find something creative to do on rails and I believe he has the game to make it to the finals.

Jumps on the other hand, I'm not sure Candide would want to compete with the young people. He's not going to double every jump. One or MAYBE two dubs, sure but not going to go all Goepper or Brown and double everything with a kicker. Since we all know that creativity and style doesn't win these comps, I just don't see him doing well in the jumps. Now I think he could, again, make it to the finals.

tl,dr; I think he could make it to the finals.

eh. reasonable assessment... But Candide dub corked 12 off a WINDLIP in his One of those days edit and stomped it into resort chop, I think he'll pull it off.
 
dont really know what injuries candides had in the past, but regardless, if they arent causing any problems anymore i dont see why he couldnt be extremely competitive. how old is he? 32? thats definitely not old yet. your early to mid 30's are supposed to be your best years as a professional athlete, physical strength, mental, and experience are all at their best. so long as the injuries arent holding him back. id really like to see him competing again.
 
The french slopestyle teamp is already full: there is a maximum of 4 skiers per country and the French riders are: -Jules Bonnaire

-Antoine Adelisse

-David Bonneville

and probably Jérémy Pancras who is training with them

And the pipe team is also full
 
And any one of them can get cut. Maybe not Jules, but the other are expendable compared to Candide. Candide is beyond, he is a monster.
 
Yeah don't compare two very different but equally devestating injuries... and Tanner had two that literally took him off his feet for a long ass time.
 
I bet Tanner could make the French team and there is no chance in hell Candide would be able to make the American team.

Haha. True. The more I think about it, the more awesome it is that someone from that original generation (and a legend in the making) could represent at the Olympics, or at least in these contests. And he's doing it without any blah blah blah or fanfare... just goin back and skiing park and killing it.
 
True... first year skiers started to go massive in the pipe showing up all snowboarders, I believe... although that coulda been 2003.
 
Yeah no one of that age and influential caliber (on today's skiing) is competing in any major competitions this year.

I saw him skiing this weekend in Keystone and it was just awesome seeing him cruise through the park like old times, something you really don't see ever...or the last ~7 years for that matter. The sad thing is I don't think most of those kids knew who he was or what he has done for the sport they were doing right then and there.

on the real tho, saw candide casually doing dub 10's n 12's on the hundred footer at mammoth last april- no camera. I wouldn't be surprised if he came out and blew minds
 
well, he was definitely slaying it in 2002 (super park hip to just name the most obvious) but the salomon lab skis at x pipe with CR was 2003
 
No shit. It would be pretty damn tough for a judge to give Candide a low score without feeling a bit of guilt. Also, if he were to bust out a token dspin tail grab from way back, I'd almost want to give him huge points just for the nostalgic factor.

fuck it, just give Candide the Olympic gold right now and we can all be done with it.
