did salomon know that candide was gonna leave the salomon? is that why they produced so small amount?

nope, its about 200 total in the US. The salomon rep was tellin me only 90 candides and 110 CRs were comin to the US.

To answer your original question, the Candide and CR come from the LAB group. These folks are the skunkworks for Salomon who produce limited high-end products to their athlete's specifications. Candide and CR's ski have slightly modified dimensions, less tip and tail, denser PU foam, and race base material.

Releasing them in fixed numbers to the public creates an artificial demand and desirability for a "limited edition" 1080 that's more than a simple repackaging of the standard model (e.g. the Cusson and Dorion models from 3 years ago).

Also, it may be safe to say, with the demise of Freeze, that the newschooler market isn't as large as we'd like to think, hence 200 pairs is enough.

they have way more cr promodel skis in the US because he's an american skiier so they want to promote him in the US and they want to promote candide in europe so all his promodels are going there. rossignol is stoked, bummer for solomon, i guess that simon and peter will just make more money

You are talking about the demand and supply issure here..i understand that demand will go up..but the thing is candide model is not really more expensive than other skis..such as aramada or 4frnt.

To b19119 - I get your point. I've always regarded the CR and Candide to be Salomon's response to the boutique manufacturer's offerings in terms of performance and price. Time will tell.

Skogenjake - don't take it personally. I think the NS market is consistent, it's just not GROWING at any substantial rate. Yes, there are more brands popping up which is great for consumer choice. But are they not competing for the same skiers?

 
i positive there were 200 in the us and pretty sure about the 1000, close to the same figures with the cr pro because there LAB skis, meaning, there made in the race lab, not by a machine..

If they were, why would they just jump in to the market? It's growing slow but it is growing.

They believe they offer a better product that is more suited to the direction the sport is going. Durability seem to be the key motivator. Perfectly understandable given how technical and enormous rails and jumps have become.

if they wanted to offer higher quality products, that means they need to invest more and shit. They would just go to snowboard or skateboard market instead of skiing....which is much smaller thatn other markets...but..they came to newschool skiing market...cus the market is getting bigger and they see potential from it
