Candide and selling out

People are really quick to jump the gun and call a person a sell out as soon as they jump on an opportunity for money. Like one kid called Candide a french piece of shit for changing brands again, thats fucking stupid. Put yourself in his shoes...I don't respect sellouts but if I were offered a large sum of money to help push and grow the sport, I would take it.

I define selling out as compromising your essence and being for money (offspring, blink 182, no doubt, etc). Candide does not ski with a swelled head. He has never compromised his style in the past and he will not in the future. He is one of the pistons running this industry.

And to all you haters out there, you're seriously bringing the sport down. Candide is helping reach the mainstream market and making everyday folks realize how powerful skiing really is. He's blown me away year after year testing the boundaries of the impossible, so anyone who doesn't respect what Candide has done and is doing for the sport, doesn't respect skiing.

if he's such a sell-out, why didnt he leave quiksilver yet? am sure he could've negotiated a beefy deal with some one else for sure....no??? exactly..

what you need to also remember is that he has been trying to cut back the number of competitions he enters, so he can focus on filming. for us, thats cool. but in marketing terms, nothing looks better for a company trying to attract the mainstream to purchase its products, which is what all the big ski companies HAVE to do, than to say we have this, that and the other champion skier skiing for us.

why? cos punter thinks 'wow, champion skis on those they must be good' or 'i can be like champ if i have his skis'.

filming is great, but only really gets seen by those who already have committed themselves to that particular genre of the sport. that doesnt create new sales for the companies involved. they want the first time buyers to all be getting on their product. that is the whole point of sponsored athletes.

Plus, if your not winning comps and getting winners checks and the win bonuses that come with that, but are spending money on extra travelling to film, and just the film itself in the case of 16mm, then you need a bigger salary to be able to afford to.

You kids need to understand that the term sell-out completely destroys your credibility the second you use it. Evidence?

I don't even think the term sell-out has a universal definition, but people accept it as a negative term regardless of its usage. Making money does not mean one has sold out. Candide is a fucking sick skier. He's not going to suck now that he is making more money with Dynastar, which could be agued respect to some musicians. Dynastar isn't going to call him and say, 'Hey, your last segment was a little too cutting edge. Dull it down so the kiddies will like it or we're cutting you from the team.'

If you had the opportunity, you would be a fool not to take it. Why is 'selling out' bad? You kids need to learn that making money is not bad. Taking more money when it is offered is not bad--ESPECIALLY in this particular instance.

Break it down, kids: company A offers you x amount of money to do Task 1 (skiing). Company B offers you more money to do Task 1 (skiing). Which do you chose? So if you took the one with more money, you'd be a sell out?

I'll 'sell out' as a skier anyday. Anyone willing to pay me to ski will not be argued with.

its not like he just up and quit...his contract just isnt being renewed. just like in basketball or any other sport.

ill be super rich and own mt.hood and let everybody from ns ski for free... except freezed

yeh why wouldn't he have left quiksilver yet? Well because Quiksilver is bigger then all the other appearl companies in skiing right now oth then possibly oakley but oakley runs there company a little differntly and wouldn't just throw down huge cash so He gettign teh most outta anyt apearl company possible, plus he's got sponsors liek siemeis(sp) n x box so the kid is rolling in money

Remember it's 10% equipment, 90% rider, and 0% what kinda jacket your wearing

I am a skier because skiing needs a future

Isn't adidas the Top Owner of salmon? and someone said rossi and salomon are owned by the same comp? so why would they put out more money for him then a sister comp? This all going on threads about him going to rossi. I think this makes it sound like he is more likly going to a company like Head? Or crazy as maybe sounds, dynatar again??.

salomon didnt want to pay candide so much more than the other riders so they didn't pick him up for another season. seems simple but i didn't know that a great partnership with salomon and a pro model were not worth the money they were giving him. but alas my favorite team, alliance if you will, CR and Candide is over. its over because of money. that doesnt make candide a sell out. it makes him just less cool. and i daresay greedy?

i got in a car crash, got shot at,and attacked by a fucking bobcat. cross country is boring.

freezed knows whats up. Plus Candide the year he left Dynastar, They were going to cut his promodel, So wouldn't you leave to a company thats offering more money and is going to renew your promodel.

i hope salomon finally starts to see the trend with their riders leaving and changes their twins. I mean good god all they do is throw money at events it helps but hopefully they will TOTALLY change their twins in the future.
