Canadian Leader debate tonight at 9pm

Oh yeah and layton is going to be an asshole to everyone.

the bloc is completely irrelevant.

I watched it for maybe 20 minutes last night in french. What a joke. It was the biggest waste of air space in broadcasting history.

When 3 of the 5 candates can barely speak the language, you need to ask yourself if there's really any value in having a bilingual debate.

As predicted, it's everyone ganging up on Harper. And May is just there being useless. Just be nice to her and pretend she isnt there (it's not as though she should be there in the first place, but that's a different story).

For pure entertainment value I'll be watching the US one. I might flip back and forth.

well last night they didn't even talk about the issues, so i'm not expecting any important discussion tonight. i might have it on while i'm working though.

I've acctually heard some very legitimate stuff from May. I'm quite likely to vote green. No way I'm voting for Harper, I wasn't planning on it in the first place and all those commercials with him in a sweater vest speaking straigh from a script somebody else wrote for him ending with the text "we're better off with harper" certainly don't help.

There's tons of mudslinging commercials between harper and dion which just makes me dislike both of them. Jack Layton... I dunno he's a pretty big whiner and generally ass hole

What are you talking about. Most Quebecers have finaly realised that voting for the Bloc will neither help the soverignist movement or help Quebec to be recognized as being distinct within Canada.

The people who vote Bloc are simply stubborn and dont actually consider any current issues. They will keep voting for the party regardless of anything. Even Pauline Marois has questioned the value of having a Quebec-only party present in a Federal election.

Duccepe doesnt seem as into it as past elections; he isnt as motivated and passionate.

And I do think Duccepe has great leadership skills. He is as charasmatic as Layton, but without the desparation that makes Layton look like a buffon/natural born loser.

On that note, the sovererignists had a series of charismatic and personable leaders prior to 2000(Duccepe, Bouchard); they really put the other federal leaders to shame.

He may be one of the lesser evils, but I don't think that he'll "pwn" in the debates. I think Harper will win, personally...but who knows? It all really depends on whether the candidates can provide their evidence in a manner that appeals to the Canadian people. I don't think they want too liberal of a P.M. but then again many don't like Harper. Should be interesting.

It will definitely be a 4 on 1 against Harper, but I don't think May will be that relevant. Layton will lead the way for sure, he is the best speaker out of the 4. Dion will get embarressed, he speaks english worse than Chretien. My guess is that nobody will really come out as a winner, and people's opinions won't change much.

The french debate last night probably had more of an importance and impact on the outcome of the election than the english debate will because Quebec has such a large chunk of electoral seats, and obviously Gilles and Dion speak better french than Harper does.

Oh, and not many people will be watching. Too many tuned into the trainwreck that will be the VP debate.

dont even try to pull this FLQ shit

The situation in Quebec is fine and would get bad if Quebec separated. End of story. We are already taxed twice. And plus if separated Quebec would want to be able to use Canadian money! What a joke!

I agree with the first paragraph you wrote.

I won't vote for the Bloc,

the other guy said the Bloc wasn't relevant, well I don't agree with him, it's relevant as long as people are voting for it. Some people vote for the Bloc because they feel the Bloc's deputy is the best one for their county. It is also wrong to say that all voters for the Bloc are stubborn and don't consider current issues, put people in boxes like that.

-Harper's going to bring a sweater vest, a portable fireplace and a trained kitty.

-Dion's going to look confused and flustered as he attempts to grasp the english language and politics itself.

-Jack...well he's just gonna do what he's always done...whatever that is.

-May's just going to smile and enjoy being in a debate!

god I love politics

first off, FUCK that FLQ bullshit those people were and are full of shit

I should reformulate my opinion:

Some people in our country, should know more about Quebec's situation before posing judgment on Quebec related-issues, such as the existence of a party named le Bloc Québécois.

and I don't believe that Quebec's separation is the solution for the moment,

I don't think that everything is fine in Quebec though

excuse me if I'm a bit touchy on politics, the lack of snow's getting on my nerves

yeah you can all talk shit about canada but its probably going to be a lot more interesting and productive than the vp debate tonight. Although palin could make a complete idiot of herself.

Why does everyone in canada seem to think that the goal of the green party this election is to get elected? This is the first time they have been able to compete fairly with the other 4 parties on a national level. Thats clearly a win already (because one of their goals is to reform the political system).

What i like about them is their leaders sense of rational and her passion to reform a system she believes is broken (to which I agree). The green party has been polling between 6-10% support across the country for the last few years yet they have had no voice in Parliment. Don't you find that odd?

wow, its weird how so many Canadians post in american political threads, and are very opinionated at that. its funny how those same people are really nowhere to be seen in here?

well with the economy as the #1 issue for people right now id say harper will win. or at least have the best arguements. the other leaders try and gang up on him creating this false situation like we are going into a depresion while harper calmy tells them they are wrong and we arnt doign that bad. they complain about our growth slowing down but how is that his fault? he took economics for fuck sakes, he knows what he's talking about and hes right. dion is blaming him for our unstable economy right now when harper has nothing to do with that, he has improved our economic situation since he took power from the dumb fuck liberals. jack layton would send out country into the dark ages if the NDP ever took power. he keeps trying to relate harper to bush, saying harpers policy's will lead to the same thing that happened in the US. how can the leader of one of the main partys be so uneducated about such a major topic?

all that being said im probly voting green. i live in the most right wing riding in all of canada and our conservative mp is a fucking NAZI. i would love to vote conservative if it wasnt for Rob (Nazi) Anders... so my vote will probly go green.

So because of that we shouldn't discuss it anymore? Its a dead issue to you?

Sorry...but this is a major issue to me in this election and I think after the embarassing first-past-the-post/MPP referendum last election, the Green party is the best option in furthering this issue (which i believe needs to be addressed ASAP).

The big 3 parties are focused right now on playing russian roulette with invisble budgets to win your votes...i'm tired of that bullshit...They are pusposly ignoring a substantial political voice (aka the green party) because they all know they will be losing supporters to them. Why do you think they blocked the Green Party out of the televised debate initally without even thinking twice about the logic behind it?

Pathetic politics...

honestly....Layton is running his campain like a campion. Honestly people vote like cattle. " If i don't vote liberal my vote will mean nothing." " My parents voted Conservative, so will I." " I would love for the NDP to get in, but really they never will my vote will mean nothing."

I think people schould just pull their heads out of their asses, and vote for who they think is best no matter what.

pick the lesser of three evils unless you want to throw your vote away:

jack layton the wussy-communist

stephen harper the robo-politician

stephane dion the skeezy frenchmen-dog sledder

One of the main goals of the Green Party this year is to bring up the issue of revamping the political system in canada because its fucked up.

I like that they are making this a main issue because i think its time to revamp a system we designed oh so long ago...

then go vote in another riding.......pretty simple. You gotta pick the worst of the evils. Green has some interesting stuff, but the person who is running in our riding is from Toronto, and has actually visited my town all of 2 times. So fuckem. Im sorry but if the MP your vote for does not come from your riding, there is NO WAY they know whats going on in your part of the world.

Then you come up with " BOO people killing animals is wrong." " Well if you don't hunt the animal population could grow to critial levels, and become a danger to the people living in the cities."

Or you come up with " Our cities are too crowded, we need to expand every way we can." " Well if you expand anymore you will be digging into farm country which we use to feed the province. We have more space, but we can't feed our people...."

But has anybody looked at the numbers yet, NDP are really kicking ass this election. They will definately have more seats in parlement this election. On the opposate end of the spectrum, this election is backfiring on Harper. He is losing traction, and losing it fast. I have not been following Stephane Dion at all. Everytime i look at what he has to say he just does not make any sence at all. He flip flops on everything.
