I'm not sure our situation is much better than the US's. Harper is very much content sucking Bush's cock. He wants to join Star Wars, Privatize health care, instill bible loving beliefs like anti gay laws and basically do everything we've stood against since 1945. I don't understand how he has so much support if Canadians consistently show that they're passionate against all these things. I hate democracies and I hate where Canada is going. I definitely agree. Canada has a great polical basis system wise but I really think that its all being warped by americas over-capitalistic ways.

Not until Jan 06. I said that if the conservatives won an election while I was gone I just wouldn't come back, but that was when we all believed that the majority would last the normal life of 2-2.5 years.

About the Liberals. The way I see it is they're scamming money, but so is everyone else, just nobody else has gotten caught. I don't support it, but I still think that the Liberals are by far the lesser of the two evils.

The developments in this country are really scaring me right now. Employers are direly trying to cut benefits packages. If Harper cuts social health care, the employers will not be quick to pick up the tab. That leaves people FUCKED. I know it's a bit of an extreme scenario, but it's more of a reality than voters notice. As much as I am joking in this thread, I really am pretty worried about the fate of the country I love so much.

oh yea then we have the immigrants who keep voting liberal so our weak ass immigration laws stay intact and they can sponsor their family from china or whatever to come to canada. then the fucking chinese grandmothers need healthcare and eat up our resources and demand chinese speaking homecare, paying out of our tax dollars. its not just the chinese its the fucking russians too.

yea then we have folks like my father who has 50% of his income taken away on income tax, that is the max you can pay, after like $200,000 a year, the max you pay is 50%, that means since im middle-upper class, it makes it harder for us to break into the upper class because upper class people are already making $500,000+ a year so 50% isn't all that bad.

 
dude, you when you go to sign up to vote (do it in advance) ask them about working on election day, tehy'll send you to someone who sets up the training days. They like to get young people involved so you'll pretty much automatically get some job. All pay over 11 bucks an hour I believe and you just sit around and chat with your neighbours (cuz tehy usually put you in your own polling station)

Yeah, the fiscal argument the conservatives keep using is getting played out. If the conservatives had been in power recently, they would have issues with squandering and what not as well. I really hope the conservatives don't win, fro mthe polls though, looks like Liberals have it. Conservatives were winning, but put the numbers that said NDP into Liberal (since most NDPers change to liberals to keep the conservatives out) and Liberals win. Although liberals need to clean up their act, the conservatives are deffitely not a better choice in my opinion. If you are getting taxed 50%, you need to learn how to work the system better.

you sit at the front, and tell people which polling station they go to. You also make sure they are eligable to vote, and a canadian citizan with out asking them. Because asking them is illegal and a violation of their privacy. if i remember correctly, i got paid about 190 for the day and like 20 dollars an hour for the training. And joel, when the time comes, all you really have to do is call a phone number and say "id like to work for elections canada" and they will be like "ok, sweet!"

I think the 50% argument is so weak. People in those tax bracket write off so much that their effective tax rate is MUCH less. My dad was telling me that the effective corporate tax rate is 4%. I'd like to know where to got that from though, and how that was calculated. Even to me that seems a little extreme. The point is though, even though the tax bracket is 50% nobody actually pays taxes on 50% of their earnings.

I'm hoping that the Liberals get enough support from the Bloc that an election won't be called. Not that the Bloc and the Liberals get along, but the bloc have no opportunity to improve on their position, and in the event of an election can only really lose seats, therefore would not want to see an early election. Man the Liberals really fucked this one up. Why couldn't they just take some left wing support instead of trying to play everything by ear. Did they really think that would work?

Yes Canada did. I watched a drunk Rex Murphy report on the US election from a bar on national television. It was awsome and reminded me of how much I love this country more than US. Also, most of our television channels are American anyway. The election hasn't formally been called yet though, so it's not likely you would have heard much about it. But still, have you even heard about the British Election? I'm not sure that US is more superior, it's just more ignorant. Hehe. US is to the world, what Toronto is to Canada.

okay maybe i over exagerrated, its 29% for making over 115,000 but that still proves my point of making it harder for the middle class and middle-upper class to break into the upper class. like i said before for the upper class, whats 29% taken away from their income of 500,000 a year? compared to 29% for people making 120,000 a year.

but then don't forget property tax, where i live in an area with the higest in toronto, then we have gst, it all adds up.

they write shit off because its the only way to beat the system. they can't write everything off.

and my dad prays he doesn't get audited, and i bet all the other people that tell their kids after dinner that you're mike scott and i had an interview with you today, pray that they don't get audited.

and not to mention that whatever you spend on entertainment and restraunt fees for the purpose of earning business income can only have 50% of these costs allowed as a deduction for tax purposes.

all i hear is my dad telling me that for every 150 dollars we spend on groceries, he needs to make 300.

yea my father gets a tax break since he puts my younger brother through a 16,000 dollar a year private school, but that doesn't cut it.

dude my dad payed a grand total of 53% on his income before write offs, and the only thing we wrote off last year was our car payments... which is still chicken shit considering how much we payed in tax. 10 percent makes a big enough difference to vote pc. but the ndp politician in my area is pretty good, so im probly gonna vote for him.

As far as the tax thing goes, dont forget about all the other taxes too. Not just income. GST, Gas, property, and more. So yeah, I'd be willing to bet your paying more than 50%.

In all honesty, if you still vote Liberal after this, you have problems. If you like the Left, vote NDP or Green or something. Or even Indepent, or noone. But seriously, if you still vote Liberal, wow. Sure probably every government is never 100% fiscally responsible, but never has it been this blatant. To put it bluntly, they stole from us. Simple as that. But as said, the East will decide again. Give me another reason to vote Alberta Seperatist. I dare ya.

its sad that the conservatives are basing their entire platfomr on the lack of fiscal responsibilityl by the liberals. Half of their "issues" involve being more responsible with tax payer's money. They through thegay=marriage issue in just for fun, nad military. They have no solid plans for anything else. From what I've read and heard, they don't even really have a solid plan for the money situation. They seem to be throwing together a platform based on the mistakes the liberals make. A platform formed on the fly.

As difficult as it is for you to jump from rich to super rich, it's ten times more difficult for someone to jump from living below the low income cut off to living above it. And I truely am sorry that your dad pays $16k to send your brother to school because he feels the education I have isn't good enough for his family. I'm not sure that making widowed mothers more responsible for the country is quite the answer. Nor is making post secondary less accessible to the kids on Jane St.

If it does go down i will most likley be in end july, begining Augest. This shit takes alot of time, even if they do call an election. I think it is total BS for people to freak out like this ouver the sponcership scandal. Please just let it go, when it happend nobody noticed, and personally i don't care anymore, i don't even know if anybody in canada cares besides the parties.
