whats it all about? is the same as the NFL or do they have different rules? y can't we just play it like baseball and play canadian teams like the blue jays. or like in hockey such as the Canucks?

I belive its like this:

-field is 10 yards longer and 5 or 10 yards wider.

-only 3 downs

-harder hits and shit (ex: dogpiles are allowed)

I'm Canadian and there is no fair catch rule but you gotta give 5 yards so the guy doesn't get destroyed so its just as good as a fair catch. The only thing I don't like about CFL rules is that they make a certain amount of canadians play on each team. It should be talent not where your born. I mean no other sports league does that theyjust have the best player playing. CFL still rocks though.

One more question, why does the guy that started this thread have a maple leaf for an icon but he's not canadian.

Well, I don't know what the CFL players think of their payroll. A lot of the guys don't even make a middle class wage. People coming up through the CFL system always talk about it being one of the harder parts of their life economically. I think the CFL also has multiple men in motion and do you guys have forward motion also? But it's also less talented than NFL teams. College players who don't make it in the draft go to play in the CFL sometimes... or the arena league.

 
ya from what i know the CFL is a pretty cool league. considering its three downs it has a huge emphasis on passing, and a lot of the better qbs in the NFL get experience through there, like kurt warner, jeff garcia, doug flutie..

wish it was televised in the us.

the endzone is longer also and you can run back field goals if they don't make it to the posts

Actually the field is the same length and only the endzones are longer (20 yards per endzone instead of 10)

Most CFL players work a second job during the off season. I think that the payroll goes right down below $30000 a year for some players.

There's an extra man in CFL (on top of what others have already said). The game is more geared for 'big play.' I find there are less entertaining drives though. It's mostly just boredom with the random big play thrown in there.

Who ever listed the QB's from the CFL, I can't believe you missed Warren Moon. No disrespect dude, but that's worthy of rotting in hell for.

the reason the salaries are lower is because the league doesn't have as much bling as the NFL. people in the US are more involved with professional team sports. up here in canada, well...we ski

ok, here it is,

Field is 110yrd long, 55yrds wide.

Each endzone is 20yrs deep.

3 downs.

Bigger ball

12 guys on the field per team

5 yrd 'safety zone' for punts.

A touchback is 1 pt. Kicking the ball through the endzone is also 1 pt.

i beleive CFL gave the NFL the 2pt conversion.

The uprights are at the front of teh endzone.

(0 yrd line)

Referees Suck ass.

Only one team has natural grass (edmonton)

Overtime consists of equal attepts at scoring from the 35yrd line. (there own - march down the field) If the first team scores, then the other team has a chance to either tie it, or do better to win the game. If they can't, other team wins.

there is probably more, but can't remember off the top of my head.

a touchback is one point for who? thats a good rule.

yeah and i did leave out warren moon, he was a little before my football time, but certainly was the man.

i like that overtime rule. the NFL is considering 3 different scenarios for OT next season, the one i like the most is first team to six, so you need a TD or two field goals instead of winning the toss and just kicking a field goal on like 1st down if you're close enough. other scenerios are the same as the CFL with a posession guarenteed per team, and i can't remeember the other one.

Touchback is a point for the opposing team.

ie. if they punt the ball into the endzone (not thru) the punt returner could take a knee and give the opposite team 1 pt, but they retain possesion and begin on there own 35yrd line.

I actually really like the new overtime rules for the CFL. Hopefully the NFL will adopt the same rules soon.
