American health care is better than Canada's, it's cheaper to pay health insurance and get good service (in the US) than to pay extra taxes and get poor health care. As for Sweden, I sure wouldn't want to live in a country with 80% taxes, because thats taking money from the rich, who worked hard for that money, and giving it to people who are too lazy to work and make a living for themselves. Social equality is bullshit.

First off try using the quote button, it simplifies things. Secondly if that comment was directed at me, I've sat in a waiting room for hours with a broken leg only to find out that they couldn't cast it because the only doctor in the hospital who could cast had gone home at 3:30. Now I know numerous people who sought out treatment in the US because there was a 3 month waiting list, and health insurance paid for it. They got their treatment right away. Personally I would rather pay for good health care through health insurance than pay for shitty health care through taxes. Nothing in life is free, and certainly not Canadian healthcare.

Where did you get the 80% tax figure? My ex girlfriend is Swedish and according to her, that is blatantly incorrect. Maybe you were exaggerating to exemplify?

haha, actually, i pulled it out of my ass, but i was researching comparative government for a class this year, and it turns out that the national government in Sweden provides for so much more than American or even Canadian government. Its actually the Netherlands that pays something like 60%. The gist of the argument is that even though they pay more in taxes, they get a lot back from the government, i.e. education, labor and industrial policies, environmental protection, health care for elderly, other social securities and pensions.

Of course, bear in mind that just because the government controls all that doesn't make it any better a system. I think someone already referred to it as "socialistic." So, I guess if I have to formulate an opinion on all this, I have to stick up for America in the sense that more privatization leaves more in the hands of we the people. More government control over health care and such isn't always better. Now I think I'll stop right here before more people threaten to kill me.

^ honestly, i can't think of one thing that would be a downfall while living in canada. sure, it can be cold, but we're all skiers here, so don't be sissies. there are lots of immigrants, but who cares, there are everywhere. india + china are the largest populations by far anyways, so eventually, they're going to be infiltrating every nation. there are really no downfalls at all. can anybody think of one? a reasonable one? not something ridiculous like 'the people suck'. there are going to be stupid people everywhere you go, or people you don't like, so don't play that game. canada just freaking rocks man. everybody loves canada.
