Canada thread

I'm making this thread because im a proud Canadian, and no matter how little you care about our politics, alot of shit is going down soon or lately, alot of shit we should know is fucked thanks to examples from our brothers and sisters down south. Canadians on the whole need to be more politically savvy, even us Canadians who don't take our stupid Canadian politics seriously. Canada is not that awesome, time we realized that.

First off, the "Harper government" is pushing their own version of the patriot act:
http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/politics/o...wants-to-make-terror-arrests-easier-1.2811571

Our bitch of a premier, after months of thinking of dissolving the LC apparently, realized monopolys make you much more money and makes you give zero fucks, so were turning our grocery stores into LC's. Ya that means food can ONLY be bought at these ontario "Grocery stores".
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/glob...anadas-best-political-satire/article22383422/

And it doesn't matter which party wins, liberal or conservative, our already pretty strict gun laws are being beefed up, cause one crazy managed to kill two mounties, which brings me to my next point

Which isn't really being talked about, cause no one wants too, but compared to alot of G8 countries, our suicide rate is really high, that doesn't seem like stats a country renowned for its inclusiveness and what i'd describe as chillness should have.

And my last point, Ontario! Hell yess, we are blowing upppp, we got such good talent its unbelievable, and I just realized THE man, Bishop, is from here, blew my mind.

Anyway, I hope I can spark a little discussion atleast, or even make a few more Ontarian's realize how fucked our country really is.

TL:DR If you're Canadian and especially from Ontario, start paying more attention and vote this year

Unrelated note: me and my buddy are gonna make an igloo and do shrooms in it..

Not every American thinks the entirety of Canada lives in the northern areas in igloos, riding around moose with beaver hats. I respect my Northern brothers!

(all the canadians on ns embody my description)

I'm Canadian and I can't wait to vote. I have problems with both the federal and Yukon Territorial governments and i'd love to get rid of them

So your biggest political issues for Canada involves some sort of provincial issue with grocery stores and a stricter gun registration?

Yeah...

Here's the thing. Canada has 35 million people across the second largest country in the world. This grocery store thing has nothing to do with Canada, it's provincial. I know Toronto is the centre of the universe, but still - we don't care. Let the Americans argue about guns. What's the deal with the general public having any kind of hand gun or assault rifle? Guns are for hunting game and that's about it. Canada!

Also - being a proud Canadian is kind of silly in itself. The wants/needs and mentality of Canadians vary greatly from region to region and it's impossible for one central government to have a true representation for all regions. Combine this with the problem of where the population is based - Ontario having 1/3rd of the countries population, most of which lives within a few hours drive from Toronto means you're going to have an issue for real representation what with Ontario being historically Liberal. Combine that with a lot of the money coming from Alberta which is historically Conservative. Bringing up the question of true representation for the Maritimes, BC, Territories, Newfoundland, Sask/Manitoba, let alone Quebec who doesn't even want to be part of the family.

In short: We have no business being one country and your Ontario problems are totally irrelevant to anyone outside of your province. Hell - Northern Ontario has nothing in common with Southern Ontario. What is there to be proud of from a political stand point when we are set up to fail no matter what party is in charge?

Globally we need to get over our national pride and actually start thinking like a global society. Fighting wars over resource rights against the people we are trying to trade with is amateur and laughable.

That is an excellent point man, we are way too divided that way, our PM's sound like owners of competing companies sometimes, and alot of people have that mentality of fuck the other provinces. Anyway's, my buddy working for a big oil company's been linking me a whole buncha articles about layoff's in that sector, he probably won't have a job for long. Man thats scary as shit, that's been the most solid job opportunity for so long. These ridiculous gas prices are not good for Alberta, which is bad for us all, hopefully the price comes back up soon.

I'm from shitty ass NJ in America and will be making my way to Canada as soon as I have the chance. I love you, Canada!

I can see why the suicide rate is so high quite honestly, during the winter shit gets pretty fucked for some people who don't exercise, eat right, get sunlight or whatever. BIT OFF TOPIC BUT WHATEVER.

And yeah, I'm voting this year.

the best part about canada is that it is right beside the us. So it pretty much gets everything new and good they make/do but doesn't get blamed for any mistakes they make.

Canada is a pretty fucking weird place. Culturally it feels like Ontario, BC, Quebec, the Maritimes, Newfoundland, and the territories are all different countries.

True, and when The Trudeau government introduced the National Energy Policy, which split revenues evenly amongst provinces (rich provinces like Alberta with having billions and billions of dollars taken away by Ontario so they can redistribute it to poorer provinces) really split the Western and Eastern provinces.

Just like everyone else is saying the east and the west along with the different provinces seem to essentially be different countries. I end up paying more attention to American politics than Canadian politics.

haven't noticed a difference between BC and ontario, except the drivers here suck

Yup. Having spent the past 3 months out of 5 in BC I agree. It's pretty much the same as Ontario except with mountains and more hippies.

Ontario =/= Canada. This is why the rest of Canada hates you.

And I've spent ample time in every region of Canada except the territories and have had absolutely no hate from anyone because I'm from Ontario. There's Toronto hate maybe..

I was mostly being facetious, however there generally isn't a lot of love for Ontario and Quebec from out west. I mean ultimately canada is canada and that usually trumps provincial differences, but still.

Also, people from Ontatio are the only ones I've heard refer to their home province as 'Canada' instead of Ontario.

Everybody says this in every province. Ive lived in 6, they suck everywhere.

They suck everywhere but in different ways. For example, here in Calgary, they suck mainly because everyone considers it a personal offense for someone to try to change lanes in front of them or merge, and because many people are too cheap to buy snow tires in Snowpocalypse City.

That being said, there are worse places. Case in point:

Two words: Richmond B.C.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THROUGH HERE. You're taking your life into your hands just by crossing the Arthur Lang. Absolute deathtrap, nowhere else comes close.

How come the biggest complaints Canadians have are how bad the drivers are... Unreal.

You guys really have no fucking idea how bad drivers can be until you try to drive over Donner Summit in a snow storm amidst a bunch of Bay Area jerkbags who think their Audis can disobey the laws of physics, or you get a million Texans attempting Vail Pass during Presidents week in crap rental cars with skis strapped to the roof with zipties and lassos...

And don't get me started with going over the grapevine on i5 during a storm. Rain or snow, those fuckheads make that shit HARROWING...

No man. Just no. You don't even know. Richmond is quite simply as bad as it gets. I mean this right here sums it up. But there are plenty of videos and all they do is capture the day to day experience of driving there.

The video you posted didn't really hit the point home, but the slew of other ones that were recommended thereafter definitely helped the case...

Still. Dumb Californians + any road conditions that aren't dry = death.
