Canada got a medal!

Well Canada finally placed in the olympics. We got silver in 2 person rowing which bumps our medal count up to an impressive 1!
 
one of our women got gold in wrestling...and i haven't even watched a single event yet...
 
jamaica is owning shit up as far as running goes, we've got the fastest man in the world and the 100-meter champ as well. COOL RUNNINGS!
 
So far this could be one of the most disappointing Olympics for Canada since this was the most funding game without being the host out athletes got.

wow congratulations...i always thought canada was a myth but today i found out the us's hat won a prize and proved itself real........ha jk no offense to canada
 
im not sure about the funding. A year and a half ago in one of my classes in university we had a guest lecturer... the COO i believe of the Canadian olympic committee and he was speaking to us the same day the government released its budget which the funding for this olympics was going to be in. He told us he got the news leaked to him that they werent getting the funding they needed and he told us right then not to expect many medals from this olympics.

I woke up at 4:30am last night to catch the 3 medals. gotta say it was a relief and i was proud to see the CIS well represented, especially with Verbeek being a grad of my university (Brock) and she still trains out of there and her coach is the coach of the wrestling team there.

This goes to show that with the lack of funding athletes can still succeed they just have to find the right university program for them in many of these sports. Canada's gold medalist goes to U of Calgary where they have a great wrestling program as welll.
 
brag? i was stating a fact...i don't give a shit how many medals we get actually, the olympics have become a joke in recent years.
 
i was trying to make a joke, i was funny in my head but not funny now. I know what you mean though, It was better when countries really hated each other

A dude in one of my English classes had to sell his car to pay his way to Beijing. It fucking blows that the COC or whatever can't even pay for you to go/stay there.
 
i agree with you the funding is pathetic.... i was arguing with the dude who said we had some of the best funding ever for an olympics not in canada which deffinetly isnt true. One of my friends is in the same position and he only gets $2000 a year for the canadian government, when you do the math that gets you what, 1 trip overseas a year or maybe 3 within the country? soo pathetic. puts intense pressure on the athlete to win when they do make their one trip, and pressure to look for enough sponsors to survive. Also, to make strong connections with every athlete to he can have a place to stay when he travels to tournaments so he can crash at their place and avoid paying for hotels.
 
Im happy but honestly its summer olympics, we canadians dont give a shit about the summer, the winter is where its at!!!

actually thats a lie i am a bodyboarder which is done in the summer but i can only do it when i go to portugal.

The reason we dont have practially any medals is because are goverment doesnt spend money on athletics like the US goverment does.
