i was really pulling for canada to win no medals... but then that girl won a silver in the trampoline... my hopes were dashed. oh well.

My thoughts on Canada's Performance at the olympics:
While we didnt get an extremely high medal count in this games, I dont think anyone was the right to be upset with the athletes. Having watched several events I feel we put up an impresive effort and all our athletes deserve recognition. The competion in these games was extremely tight with most of the medal winners seperated by hundredths of points. looking at the number of our athletes who placed in the top 5 or qualified in each event for the finals we placed very well overall. We dont focus our training as much on the summer sports which is well known in the olympic comunity, even the heads of the olympic commitee made a comment on how we need to support our summer athletes as much as our winter ones. But forgetting that I give each and every one of our athletes congradulations for giving great efforts in every event. The competetion from the world is getting fierce but we can still compete.
On a side note I think Canada still has one of the best displays of patriotism at the games. No matter when you saw an athlete on TV they always displayed a flag somewhere on themselves. And in the closing ceremony they were all extatic to be there and were wearing every possible flag they could, as well as doing laps oround the stadium proudly waving the giant canadian flag. I was proud to have such a great group of athletes representing us.

ya, the government puts no money in to olympic sports and training, look at the u.s and there training facility, also look at how many more black people there are in the u.s, for the track events you want black people they're good at it, and the u.s is full of them thanx to slavery and all

dont sterotype about black people. great britain's sprint team had black people also, can we blame them for slavery also? i dont even know where im going with this but all i know is that you were correct in saying that the US puts more money into trainning and facilities. it also helps that our collegiate programs are the best in the world. dont just say its cuz we have black people.

I too blame the government for spending more money on health care and education than they do on athletes. Regarless, that arguement is void because Australia is just as liberal as Canada is. I don't want to turn this thread into another political thread, but I think that more emphasis should be placed on business sponsorship than on government sponsorship. Selling out is WAY underrated.

I dont think that it is just a lack of funding. It may also be due to a lack of determination.
BC- everyones high. Alberta- everyones working the oilfield or being broke farmers. Saskatchewan- driving Chevys. Manitoba- staying dry and preparing for winter. Ontario- adoring Martin and Toronto. Quebec- trying to learn English or getting ready to seperate. NB,PEI,Nova Scotia- fishing and making Alexander Keiths commercials. NFLD- learning English. The Yukon and NWT- being cold, mining diamonds and sometimes huffing gas. Nunavut- what's that?

Yea the american public eats that shit up we love our AMERICAN HEROES!! SO most of our athletes just make sponsorship money from nike and shit like that!
Im not positive but it doesnt seem like that big of a deal in canada for summer so no will to be a competitor!
