CAN WE PLEASE MAKE SOME CHANGES TO GEAR TALK?!

more mods and removing reposts/trolls/junk asap could save NS imho ....
you don't harm someone with a legit question by removing his pointless thread and telling him to searchbar or give him/her a link to a related thread with possible answers ...^^that way we're still helping out newbies, but keep the forums clean and interesting....
also, bring back the you laugh you lose thread, i just hate it how all the random bullshit gets his own thread nowadays ....(i know its for donators only)

there is a reason LYL is donator only, all the 4chan shit on here is getting a bit over done, and alot of that stuff was from that thread. it just shows how immature a lare chunk of NS really is

I like the idea of 50 post minimum (or some other higher number), it might encourage kids to read a bit into the forums and ask their questions there first before making a retarded thread about zippers. Sure, some of them might post whore to get to 50 but overall I think it's a good idear.

I also like the idea of having separate hardgoods and softgoods GT. The only snag there is that you are going to have even more kids posting shit in the wrong forums like you do now... but I guess that's one of the reasons we have wonderful mods anyway. But maybe the 50 post minimum will have kids learn by then...

either way, GT needs a bit of attention imo

^^ i second this +more mods, not necessarily banhammer powered mods, but allow some more ppl to remove pointless/threads/posts and allow to change threads to a different forum ....

lol

"You have been banned from Newschoolers.com.

If you believe this is in error, you may contact us at help@newschoolers.com

Why you were banned: because i can"

i really think you need to add a few people who are gear talk specific mods with the ability to move and delete threads. if a ban is necessary, those people will consult the real mods, but something needs to happen in gear talk. give them a different color name. the reason i say this is not solely to distinguish them but to create SOME form of authority over there. i pay more attention to a post by a mod than a post by jibburish420lol.

the gear talk mods would also be responsible for forum maintenance, even doing things that normal members can do like bumping the multi-page threads to the top where people can see them clearly and keeping it clean in there. if there is a team of people who are always in gear talk and clean it up right away, it won't get out of hand. with how much of a shitshow nsg and other forums have been lately i fully understand that a handful of mods can't pay as much attention to gear talk as it needs, so creating a specific group dedicated just to that forum will go a long way

i've used gear talk a lot in the past and i've always found it to be an incredibly helpful and sometimes forgotten forum. there's a lot of knowledge on ns even though it often doesn't seem like it and i hate to see a good forum get completely ruined by basic careless mistakes and a lack of organization. if you get people in there to delete the dumb threads and keep some form of order i'm convinced it will work. it's at least worth a shot

and get some euro mods, around noon, late night for you americans/canadians there's a lot of trolling by drunk people/european trolls and almost never mods online....

haha I could be part orange name, part Euro mod... good cop/bad cop all at the same time haha

I do like no_steeze's idea of having GT specific semi-mods... The forum would need a lot of correction at first until kids figure it out and having the extra GT specific help would be a way to achieve that.

right. it wouldn't need to be permanent persay, but it needs to happen to get the ball rolling in the right direction

something also gets my blood boiling; thread like; how to spend 100$, got 25$ what should i buy ?
seriously, if you're a kid and need to ask others what you should spend your money on, you're terribly spoiled ....

What about Gear "Experts"? Give a limited group of around 10 people limited mod powers in Gear Talk only. Give them a yellow name. Obviously these should be people who have consistently shown a helpful attitude and general stoke for NS. It could be real experts who work in the industry (i.e. onenerdykid, schmies, etc.) or it could be the occasional good solid poster (i.e. FlashKick101). "Experts" would encourage good posting and lend an air of "officialdom" to Gear Talk.

Look I know threads like "what size outerwear, what colour, etc. etc." are stupid/annoying threads, but what's wrong with a good what ski/binding/boot thread? Isn't that the whole point of gear talk...? But really I think we should establish what a "good" thread is and what a "bad" thread is... Because someone's "threadworthy" thread might not be threadworthy in someone else's eyes.

Hay guise, I have an idea. How about 2 mods for each section. 2 for BST, 2 for SG, 2 for NSG, 2 for SD, and so on. I feel like with 2, there would almost always be a mod on, and with 1/2 mods always patrolling the same forum, troll threads could be deleted almost instantly.

I think the orange namers should stay with orange, otherwise it might get confusing for people to figure out if a yellow is just a kid or an orange/yellow. Maybe.

It would be good to have a few Experts living in GT though... That along with the semi-half-mods proposed by no_steeze could be a solid solution to the GT crisis.

a good ski/binding boot thread is fine with me, it's just that there are tons of virtually the same threads that could be combined in 1 single thread ...
theres so much crap on there that has been said over and over....and even if you think they do a good job posting all their specs in their thread, there will still be kids advising jesters or pivot 18s to a 12y old beginner....
i say, get some gear talk mods, remove these threads, send these kids in the right direction of a thread/where to look, and if they still have questions, they can PM the mod ...

i think there could pretty easily be "experts" that are the "half-mods", to make it easier for the real mods/admins to keep track of them, and there is no reason to have two sets of people that will probably have overlapping jobs

i'm just being harsh now because it's so so bad

from my years of staring at the computer screen for hours a day i've acquired a very particular set of knowledge that is very helpful for people with gear-related questions

well then you get taken of the rowen of gt list haha. however youre welcome to stay on if you decide to keep being harsh to the idiots who dont learn

well it's all about identifying the problem

sometimes a kid is just a dumb troll, then he should get banned if this is one of many offenses

sometimes a kid is just a serious noob. he just joined, has no idea wtf is going on, found the right forum, and made a really shitty thread. due to the lack of guidelines he had no idea that his thread was shitty. i try not to shit on kids like that, i just try to guide them in the right direction, but sometimes i get carried away. although i must say, the TGR reign of terror approach works really well for noob control. i learned really really fast over there what was right and what was wrong. getting yelled at over there by a bunch of people makes you want to curl up in a ball and die

of course, i didnt mean unwarranted harshness. i mean when its threads by kids who should know better, and the trolls of course

they don't even deserve a reaction, they deserve a deleted thread, then another deleted thread, then a ban

3 strike system

shit, didnt mean to press reply

works for me, i just want gt to be rid of the random bullshit, with a system that most, if not all members can agree on

Pretty much this.

Giving these 4 mod powers over GT would improve the site no end.

GT should be NS's flagship forum. Most people stumble upon this site because they have gear related questions. If they see GT full of bullshit threads, they won't hang around. If, however, they see that it's full of knowledgeable people giving solid advice, then they'll turn from casual visitors into lifelong members.

ok, but some european mods would be welcome as well...
to illustrate; none of those 4, or any other mod is online right now ....

i agree... but seeing as how only a small percentage of NS members are Euro and thus there are only 29 members on right meow, NS probably doesn't need Euro mods yet. If anything is done in the odd hours when Euros are the only ones on here, it probably won't take too much time to correct once the US/Canada mods have woken up and had their morning PBR.

no_steeze

mrstskier

flashkick101

its like an attempt to woo us into believing all these new "lifelong members" will be quality, and GT will be saved!

no.

rick, dont you want lasting companionship from other newschoolers members? you dont want to be lonely your whole life, do you?

i mean 24/7 policing when 29 members are on is a bit excessive, i am comfortable saying that anything that happens during that window can be corrected the next morning. when there're no mods online and someone decides to post porn, it's gone in a few hours

take into account east coast and west coast though

i'm on a lot when mrstskier isn't, and he's on a lot when i'm not, so we need that balance. if there're 2 east coasters with similar schedules and those are the only 2 mods then we end up with a big gap of tumfoolery in gear talk

but i vote for mrstskier because he doesn't go to school or work so he's on the computer all day as long as he's not playing xbox

thanks for bumping that, there isnt really AS MUCH of a problem in any of the other forum, yes, there are some dumb threads here and there, but for the most part if its skiing related its in sg, if its not and its in sg it gets moved out pretty quick. media and arts is generally pretty clean, site discussion also.

the problem is gt, and all the absolutely ridiculous sizing threads that are reposts of reposts because apparently NOBODY has even close to a similar body type as someone else that has already made a thread about it, or someone who has already posted pictures of them wearing their stuff
