CAN WE PLEASE MAKE SOME CHANGES TO GEAR TALK?!

I'm not gonna go into to much detail why GT is a total shit show, because it is kind of obvious. so I'm just gonna offer 3 suggestions to make it a lot better:

1. split it in two, make hard good talk and soft good talk

2. Require a post count minimum to make threads(this should apply to everywhere), many other forums have a 50 post minimum, this keeps trolls away greatly

3. start policing it more, make threads about outerwear sizing a bannable offense, or just delete them. If you feel this si to much work, make more mods, even if it is forum specific like many other sites do(aka give someone who is in GT alot mod powers there, but not in the other forums, do this with all forums

We have all the rules and general advice stickied for skis, boots, bindings. I also delete "what looks better" threads upon sight, but thats my personal vendetta.

I dunno what else we need to do, run a banner ad disclaimer?

maybe after you click submit thread, have a terms of use style thing pop up that you have to agree to, saying "dont be a dumb ass, google before making threads, and go to the company site first" or something along those lines

delete all the dumb posts in 2010/2011 outerware thread. like replies saying "THAT IS SOO DOPE!" im not going through 12 pages or whatever it is now

All the threads about saga sizing and specs are very irritating. Theres a specific thread for that which is rarely used. If you're 5'5" and are asking if XL saga would be too big your parents should obviosly still be buying your clothes. ITS ON THEIR WEBSITE.

May I suggest an area with all the sizing charts for outerwear brands? Like maybe not even a sticky. Something thats just built into gear talk at the top. Sorry if there already is one.

The 50 posts idea might not be a good idea since that might just encourage people to spam to get to the 50 posts. But for sure we need more mods and stricter rules in gear talk. there were atleast 2-3 first drop vs saga threads in the last week and every day there's a new what size saga thread.

This has been said for months. It's time for something to be done. I want dedicated mods for GT and a "Terms of Use"-style box to pop up when you make a thread.

Actually what I really want is a mass PM to every active NSer clarifying the rules and terms of use of the site and GT.

no way. dont get me wrong, brendan is probably the best member i have ever seen. ive never seen him put anyone down and he definitely knows his shit inside and out but i dont think he could ban anyone. hes just to nice a guy, not that thats a bad thing by any stretch

need someone whos a dick to really enforce the rules, bigspence or mrtskier would rid GT of noobs quite well

That is all.

Please do this, and make Tom and Flashkick mods. It is definetely worth it, and both of them are on quite a bit, as apposed to many other inactive mods.

Point 2 is not a good idea. I came here for the first time specifically to ask a gear-related question. If I'd found I couldn't, I'd probably not have 4000 fewer posts

Points 1 and 3 are good ideas

Gear Talk and BST should definitely have their own mods, due to the massive amount of reposts and general traffic. Someone not only to clear up the bullshit, but to bump relevant threads when the same question is asked often, etc. As much as I hate mrstskier's anti-park skiing agenda, he'd probably make a good gear talk mod, along with Big_Spence at al.

it seems like alot fo you think i hate park skiing, if I did, do you think I would be on here? i do not hate park skiing, far from it, i find it very fun from time to time and it brings publicity to our sport. now what I do hate is a large portion of park skiers these days, as many of them never learned to really ski and yet the call them selfs skiers.

I've never heard you called a non-park skier haha. But yes, that whole I learned just to ski park and can't do anything but bomb and lap shit is the worst. Real skiing should always come before park skiing

"what happens to prices and shit, do kids go wild for XL? cause i went out on a limb with my jacket and im just hoping it fits like i wanted. if i need to get L would it be hard to find?.....

to mrstskier or whatever and big spence, yeah this is probably a useless thread, shut the fuck up its a simple question and ONCE ITS ANSWERED ill get a mod to delete it.

thanks peeps"

hahahahahahahahah another quality post by the.show.

general rule of thumb:

if you can 360 before you can ski moguls, you've gone wrong somewhere. learn how to ski, then ride park. you'll thank yourself later when the park's closed and you don't have to embarrass yourself flailing down a groomer

psh...kids these days

gear talk is fucking ridiculous right now, every other thread is 'how big my outerwear should be' or 'how long of skis i should get', i mean there was even a thread created for that, 'the unworthy GT thread' and no one fucking uses it

gear talk makes me want to hoist an anvil up into a tree, walk directly under it, and slowly burn through the rope supporting it until it falls and strikes me in the face

after a deep study and an attempt to help clean it up, i think the only way to save gear talk is to delete every single thread and start over. it should be an absolute monarchy run by macmahooon and every unworthy thread and post will result in an ip ban and 3000 viruses

if i were a mod i'd ban you, and every time you hit 49 posts i'd ban you again and send you e-mails and messages just saying "HA!"

i have no doubt in my mind, that you would try and find some sort of humour out of slightly deterring a random dude from nothing

it would make every single day THAT much better

just thinking about it makes me almost as happy as i am when a plate of breakfast food is put down in front of me

i cannot agree with thomas enough.

its gear talk, not fashion talk.

god id kill for 3-4 years ago when it was all poorly made what ski threads, if we could just get rid of all the

wat size outerwear should i get

wat outerwear looks best

or god forbid, look at these pics of me in a mirror in all my ski crap

threads.

please. make it stop. please. a massive banner/sticky that just says, this is gear talk, not fashion talk would be wonderful.

i think out of any member on this site right now, i hate you the most.

i agree that gt needs to be cleaned up. i dont like the idea of the 50 post count rule, that will lead to people post whoring to get up to 50, that may not seem like very much, but in the span of a few hours that is going to get really old really quickly, and will cause even more problems for the mods.

the terms of use is a good idea, gt/ thread specific mods would also be a good idea, just make sure theyre people who will not play nice guy, and then on the opposite end of the spectrum, people who will not whip out a ban jackhammer and go to town on gt unnecessarily

i suggest a new forum called "fashion frenzy" for all the little fags who are insecure about what color underwear goes best with their crocs....
and then moderate the original gear talk a little more and get rid of all the stupid threads like "what ski", "what boots?" or "what binding" ....
and the "where can i find (bent chetlers)?" threads should go on B/S/T ....

Maybe there could be a way to have to get your threads reviewed before they can be posted up until you've been a member for a few months or a year or something?

And dont tell me I havent been a member for a year yet, I'm well aware of that. hah

meh, shouldn't judge in "time you've been on NS" there are guys who have been on under a year and contribute a lot! and there are ppl that are here for several years and still have to make their first decent post or contribution ...

Then maybe each member would have to be approved to make threads but until they are their threads would have to be reviewed before they can actually be posted.

I've been on here for well under a year and I contribute quite a bit (I'm not saying any of my controbutions have any worth) but I'm pretty sure we all know how the majority of newschoolers feels about that. "postwhore" is a pretty common nickname for me. haha. I dont mean to do it. I'm just on NS a ton

strangely enough gear talk was much much cleaner and less frustrating when it was merged with b/s/t. i'm glad they're separate now but it just shows that ns has gone to shit
