Can we bring people back to life? can we make people?

i know this is going to sound weird, and is probably a really stupid question but it got me thinking...

on the news the other day scientists had grown a pig heart, which is the most similar to humans. and i remember reading in here we also grew a brain that could function correctly. now i am wondering, if we could grow all organs, and put them in someone who was dead and connected them to everything...would they come back to life?

now for the one that i think is more probable, could we technically build a person?

i'm sorry for the stupid questions, but i am high and i've been thinking how awesome that would be.

I really don't think you could do that. There would be a lot of factors that scientists couldn't duplicate. It just wouldn't be natural, the person wouldn't be able to function right, and they'd probably die within a few minutes or hours of being alive. Basically what you'd have is a vegetable, like Terry Schaivo or whoever that one bitch was that everyone complained about.

Well, if your talking about clones of people, then you can make a DNA replica of them, but the way a person develops is essential to their character.

no i am basically talking about building a person. or bringing one back to life. like say they had a heart attack, give them a new heart or something....i know it is stupid, but i am full of stupid ideas today from this marijuana.

no they couldent, the only way it would be plausible is if the person was scientifically dead but on life support so his boddy dosent cool or his blood dosent coagulate, than they could possibly put the new organs in, but the new organs would probably die of shock. About growing a whole person i doubt it at this point anyway. when they can imitate a womans tummy than mayby.

actually i bet they could grow a person now. Cus they have grown animals and shit before soo it could happen. At any rate, i think its wrong! fake people would creep the shit out of me.

think they can bring things back to life that have been dead more than a few hours. Its almost proof of a "soul" just because they can't bring anything to life even with working parts.

I'm pretty sure it hasn't happened yet, for sure not with humans.

The problem would be the brain. Neurons, the cells in your brain, are growable, but whats nearly impossible to grow are the connections between them. These form in early development, probably through chemical signals in the embryo, and growing a brain with all of these intact and functioning would be... difficult.

But people have 'come back from the dead'. There was one case a few years ago where some dude overturned his wrangler into a icy creek, and was underwater wrapped up in his seatbelt for two hours. They pumped the liquid from his lungs and ran his blood through a machine that slowly warmed it, and the guy regained function after a few days. Totally okay too, no brain damage despite being oxygen starved for two hours. Two hours of being clinically 'dead' too. Crazy shit.

i'm not positive, but i think i know what you mean with the brain thing. and if i'm correct, that brain they "grew" was able to fly a simulator plane. i think you mean it wouldn't function properly, but according to that article it can be taught things...dunno if that's what you meant or not though...

i don't think you realize how complex the human brain is. if we can grow that then we should have already figured out fusion and the perpetual motion machine.

POST WHORE ALERT!!!!!!!!!

haha sorry for responding so much to my thread...

but no i wouldn't want to, but it is very intriguing to me. just a thought i had today, figured i'd post it up...

i understand that, but if the point is they can teach it to do certain tasks. which to me means you could teach it to do things, and who knows maybe teach it to "learn" or whatever you want to call it. i am not talking about the present, but sometime in the future....i don't know man, i am no expert, and you probably know way more than me on this subject. it was just a thought i had, nothing more.

I think in the future we'll be able to grow human organs, like you'll be able to look at your DNA code, determine that you have risk for heart attack, and have 3 or 4 hearts in cryogenic freeze just in case or something.

I'm not sure if you could really "build" a human per se, but you could eventually probably design and grow one.

you should read the book Frankenstein. It obviously is a fictional novel written for leisure, but it is pretty much exactly what you described.

What they did was link 25 neurons together. The cells responded to electrical signals and transferred them between two computers. It didnt show consciousness, or understanding, or computational power.

Add to that that our brain has all of that plus 100 billion neurons interacting in ways we do not understand... we're a long way off from even fabricating a brain, let alone making a 'life' from scratch.

I actually know 2 different people who have been pronounced dead, and returned to life. I'm pretty sure they are still the undead.

i was watching the news earlier, and i dont know wether this is worldwide, or just england, but scientists have being given the right to make human cow hybrids, They're planning on making an embrio thats 99% human and 1% cow to study for more information on diseases like parkinsons. Presonally i rekcon its a little scary, i dont know wether they plan on accually trying to make this humancow thing, or just the embrio of it, but i rekcon this is taking science too far.

Yeah you can do that because the cold water slows down the body's demand for oxygen. Its the closest humans can come to cryogenicaly freezing someone. This technique is now used all over the world to treat brain damage paitents. Slow down the blood flow and the oxygen demand gives time for the swelling to go down and to heal. it is super cool!!

I think it is all possible, but it is illegal. After some dude managed to mix bacterias and viruses, they shut down all genetic science for a year and came up with rules and guidelines for future science. It is legal to mess around with animals, but humans have to stay untouched, for some reason.

probably. if we can do it with animals, humans shouldnt be an exception. but the only way to create a person is to use an embryo, which is in itself a person. i dont think we can just create someone out of the blue.

im skeptical about that bringing people back to life thing, because unless they were frozen or something then their bodies would rot, mmmm rotting brain back to life? and there would be all sorts of worms, congealed blood, bacteria, fungus, and not to mention that stuff they use to preserve bodies. so i think a big no on digging up some dead guy and bringing him back to life
