Can someone sue me if I have no money?

Long story short, was involved in a fight (minimal evidence against me, got reduced to harassment)...Kid got pretty roughed up, I totally regret even being there but the other kids who got in more serious trouble did a number on him. He's suing in civil court for his medical bills and stuff I guess, but I am trying to finish college and have zero money and technically zero assets. How does this all pan out if I have nothing to pay him?

No you can still get sued unless you declare bankrupcy, which you won't do if you plan on finishing college. If you can't pay then the collection agency will take your personal belongings. I've heard stories of people losing their homes to pay for loans and stuff

they could go after your belongings, like your car, since you drive an audi, i think. that would prob cover damages.

They can garnish your wages for the rest of your life. They can't take everything you own, just luxuries and they will take any extra of your future earnings until you pay of the debt.

If they can prove that you are still supported by your parents (which it sounds like it), they can sue both you and your parents.

My parent's friend had a renegade kid who hit someone in a car while they were riding a motorcycle (under the influence of alchol & pot) and caused brain damage to the motorcyclist. Because he was still supported by his parents at the age of 20, the person who was hit's family went after everything. Took 18 months to settle.

Recomendation is to buy a bigger umbrella insurance plan, quick. My parents did this after it happened to their friend for fear that I would fuck up, hah.

wtf this sucks, just when you think its all over, it come right back at ya...think before you act people, lesson be learned.

ya they could but there is no point. in civil cases people sue the defendant with the most money you have none so they would find some else to sue most likely.

these things are all true, although in my opinion the old adage holds true "no blood out of a stone".

this is america, you can always get this held up in court for years, reduced, thrown out, etc etc. and if you have nothing really to give, they are not going to take your lunch money or your clothes or skis or anything like that. collections are not going to roll up on your house tomorrow.

think about oj and how much he has paid to the victims family....

I think if I were you I would talk to a lawyer, not a bunch of bored skiers.. no offense to the bored skiers trying to help this dude out

talk to his lawyer and be like, man i got no money, but my friend here is a cash cow. the lawyers are more interested in the money than the client is.

I don't know what other people said, but if you are over 18, wich I assume you are cause it says you're in college, they'll garnish your wages.
