Can someone explain flex on skis to me?

I understand the difference between a soft and stiff ski, but looking at these skis to buy and they claim to be right in the middle of soft and stiff. they're the armada alpha x's. is medium usually too stiff to butter, or what?
 
much like ski boot flex, the flex measurement of skis will vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer.
