Can skiers go faster than snowboarders? I THINK SO!!!!!!!

so i was surfing round the transworld site the otherday and say a video of some early season snowboarding. it had some guys doing some rails and then a jump at the bottom. the hill was really flat tho and with the rails at the top, some ppl just couldnt get enough speed for the jumps. and if you watch closely some snowobarders in the video dont even make the landing! my favorate is when one guy does a backflip and lands pretty much on the wall!!! ROFL !!! he wasnt even close!

anyhow, with so many snowborders missing the landing i was wondering if skiers can go faster than snowboarders? we have poles (sometimes! if ya know what i mean) and can kick on hte in-run for more speed but when we drop in, can we go faster than snowboarders? +++++K for good ones (of course!)

oh and heres the video:

I'd say just due to length and surface area skis are generally faster than snowboards, plenty of other variables play a part though

i'm pretty sure skis are faster, but it's not really worth making fun of snowboarding for that. unless you're like, 12 or something.

there are many variables that make skiers tend to be faster, one is the fact that skiers can center their mass more to gail velocity as well as the ability to lean forward more, not to mention that ski base technology tends to be faster in terms of absorbing wax

What I notice when snowboading is that it's way more difficult to keep your balance compared to skiing. With ski's you can be more stabile because you have two "planks" to stand on. So one ski can take a bump while you keep contact with the snow with your other ski. When you're snowboarding, and you don't see the bumps really well, you'll be bouncing all over the place in no time....

I think that's one of the big differences that make skiing faster than snowboarding, you're simply way more stable with skiing.

yes, skis are much faster. i went into a tuck on my 180 gs skis and did a straightline race with my sick snowboard friend and i beat him by a shitload

some of those tricks were fucking gnarly. the guy who missed the landing completely made me laugh though

do none of you guys ride with snowboarders? if you take their speed into the jump or vice versa you're fucked. how is this new to you? never notice the snowboarders starting 20 ft or so uphill when dropping into that kicker?

^ I dunno if thats true... Ive been riding with snowboarders my whole life, and we do trains all going the same speed.

Anyway, yeah ski tech plus body positioning is just faster. I only have one boarder friend that can come close to keeping up with me.

this thread is fucking pointless.

if you are making fun of snowboarders for being slower, then you are obviously still in middle school.

if you strictly look at the physics of the friction between the bottoms and the snow, skis and boards should be equally as fast. but if you take into account aerodynamics, skiing should be faster. Also, polls and skating obviously help skiers.

love the guys talking in the background at the end "He's not even 21 yet, is he?" "No, he's like 17" FAGS!

Who cares dude snowboarders are usually going as big as skiers in the park anyways so does it really matter? ^^^ Green Steez every post you leave ends like this..........................................................

hes not talking about the guy who missed the landing... hes talking about the guy who backflipped onto the wall, on PURPOSE... TWICE.... because he was TRYING TO

yeah I KNOW i'm taking about the same guy!!!! he definately missed the landing and didnt make it... guess his trick looked so good that ppl think he did it on purpose??? c'mon man get real

I'm pretty sure those cats that "missed" the landing ramp were actually intentionally taking the jump as a hip...and the guy that backflipped off the ramp into the quarter definately did that on purpose too.

well we are facing the right way so going faster probably isnt as scary for us. also look at xgames for example the skiers are aways boosting what like 15-20 ft out on average? while the good pipe boarder get a solid 10 ft of air on his/her best hit.

Personally, I've noticed the same thing that most of my snowboarder friends have to start higher up than myself or any other skiers to hit the same jump.

Skiers are definitely faster, no doubt about it. If you put a skier and snowboarder of equal level on the same course a skier would win hands down.
