Can my skis be saved?

I have a piar of seth pistols that have been mounted three times and basically have no more integirty in the core. I don not however want to give them up because i only got to ski them 4 times due to a person on this site who totally screwed me over. I had an idea to plug up all of the existing holes and mount a 2mm flexible steel palte to the ski using epoxy and 4 screws as a low profile mounting plate. I was wondering if this idea would work. I talked to a couple people who work in shops and they say that it is worth a shot. I jsut wanted a few more opinions.

Sam Caylor. THis guy is a total douche. Flat out liued to me and said they were in good shape. That wasn't the case. They had been mounted three times. I couldn't tell that because the bindings covered the holes. I only found out when I ripped the heel piece off on a 180 over like a 10 footer. I landed fine and then bam the heelpiece jsut fell off.

how much is a broken leg worth to you? a cheap pair of skis obviously. Jimmy rigging something you plan on flying fast and high on is very stupid

Uhh, no, no no and no. First of all, are you going to drill MORE holes in the ski to put this plate on? Secondly, that epoxy wont do shit after the first day. Itll flex it self rotten. In addition to that, the skis would lose ALL integrity that they had before. Your skis would ride like any LINE ski, where its unflexable under the boot. In all aspects of the thing, those skis are powder skis, and really soft man. Plug the holes up and remount, your core doesnt have much integrity to begin with.

Plus, if the holes are really spread out, IE - 2/3 different brands were mounted giving very different and dispersed hole patters, you should be just fine anyways.

DOe sanybody who works in a shop thinks this is a good diea provided I am careful when positioning the bindings so that they don't kill me.

The problem with moving them around on the skis was that i tried that and they ripped out again. I was thinknig about trying this because the steel would give the binding a little bit more material to bite into.

They aren't warranteable. I tried already. Talked to Gutt and everything. And the helicoils didn't help. this is kind a a last chance attempt. I wanan be safe when trying this. Im gunna work with a certified binding tech when doing this.

This is really idiotic man... think about the sequence of events....

Bindings wont hold, so what makes you think the plate will? Gonna use some fairy dust? Plate rips out, bindings go with it, you smash your face.

If youre going to do this fucking plate idea, at least look on ebay for some atomic plates that theyd put on their stomps and whatnot. At least then those plates are anchored better.

Also if the holes jackass left in the ski were not plugged with the little plastic plugs or glued up chances are moisture got into your core and affected the integrity of it

there no where lese on the ski you can them out them? ie. core center or at 0 traditional, there is no where you can mount inbettween? if you can try the heli coils again.

or try to mount tele bindings on them, and then learn to tele for fun.

that plate would be wack as hell man.

If you want to go for a real last ditch effort that is guaranteed to keep the bindings on the skis, I've seen this done before: drill right through the ski, flip it over and use a large bore drill to increase the size of the hole in the base large enough to fit the T end of a T-Bolt in there. Then you mount your bindings with the t-bolts and p-tex back over the holes in the base. Looks like shit and you won't win any races on them, but the binding will never ever come off, and it beats throwing away your skis.

HAHA, thats a funny one.

May as well try this then man. Cut out a section under the boot where youre going to mount. Get a dremel tool and take some of the core out enough so you can put that metal plate underneath the core. Then put the base material back on VIA base weld or expoxy it.

Maybe I misled you by saying 'T-Bolts', I don't mean the big ones that you use for lumber, I mean ones similar to the ones that you often use on ski boots, sometimes known as 'suck screws'. So the holes in the base are not much bigger than a penny, and then you cover those holes with p-tex anyway. It's secure as hell and way less work than mounting an internal plate would be.

Well, if the rumours are true, Seth himself rides his Pistols with a Deflex plate on them. The plate itself is more or less the same idea as your concept, but super fucking stiff, and has a big layer of rubber underneath it to dampen vibration. It would only add about 2 cm of stack height to your bindings, so it's not super high. If you can find one, it'd be easier than making your own. Granted, it'd stiffen up the ski considerably, but if your core is already fucked, you might as well. The added stiffness might help you out.

go with the rubbet over steel and attach the steal in the middle (like the line binding, where there are no holes, you should be good, and if you aren't your not any worse off than you are now

plug all the holes with silicone then get a strip of .125 HDPE and drill the holes for the bindings slightly undersized so prob a letter j drill bit, then use a strong wood glue and completely fill up the holes, then mount and let it all cure over a day or so. cant say if it will last forever but its an idea. also if no hdpe use urthane.

I you put a steel plate on it, you could extend it out the front and back past the bindings and put about 10 screws into the skis. And the screws from the bindings would never rip out of the steel plate. Give it a try, should work fine.
