Can i get out of this ticket?

so on my way to class today i got pulled over for "5 or 6 things". which consisted of window tint, blacked out tail lights and a bunch of bullshit. he "took it easy" on me by only giving me a ticket for the tint and tails...but i'm pretty sure that was the only actual illegal shit on the car. anyways he specifically asked me my car name and i said mazdaspeed 3 but on the citations it says car is a mazda 3, 4 door, automatic. however i drive a mazdaspeed 3, 5 door, manual.

so is this all negligible or does it actually mean something and can i save $219?

no.

tickets are usually quickly written, and there isn't a whole lot of space on them. Details of the car beyond the make, and brief description of the model aren't necessary. And pretty much so long as he has your license plate number and personal info, you won't get out of it.

My first ticket was WALKING. I got "pulled over" for suspicions activity, searched illegally, the idiot wrote down the wrong street, time and completely misspelled my name and didn't take down my address. My lawyer said I still had to show up because if I didn't and I was stopped for something else I'd be arrested.

Moral is, it doesn't matter what they write on the ticket. There is no way to get out of it because he wrote down the wrong number of doors and the only way to get it reduced (or dismissed) is to remove the tint and you should write to your DA about that.

not true
if the officer wrote down important information incorrectly like the date/time, license plate number, registration #, make/model of car, and color (to a varying degree) those are all grounds on which the ticket would be dismissed

License plate and registration yes possibly. Model and color no. Unfortunately the officer's word is considered more important than the paperwork he writes it down on. Just ask a lawyer or write to the DA. He's not going to get out of it because he wrote down 4 doors instead of 5.

my brother's friend got the same thing, and as long as he took off the tail light tints (unless theyre painted) and show them in court its fine. idk about the window tints.

ive never had an issue with my tail light tints which are 33%.

well plus wrong model of car...

but anyways yeah it was 109.50 for the windows and 109.50 for the tail lights. he told me i have to pay the fine no matter what, court or not. so i'm not taking off shit if i have to pay the fine anyways. however i might soak my tail lights in alcohol since i sprayed them myself and try and get out of that ticket...not taking off the window tint. fuck that too expensive lol.

I've been pulled over for tint twice, both times I was given a warning and ten days to remove it. I've never heard of someone being fined outright like that. I'm in PA as well so the laws should be the same. Take the tint off and take it to court, there should be a warning period for problems with your car like that.

Tint is cool and all and expensive yes but is it worth giving any cop you run past a reason to pull you over????

You can tint anything but your windshield and driver and passenger windows.

yeah i know i asked him specifically if it was a "fix it" ticket and if i could take my car in at court and show i took off the infractions if i'd still have to pay the fine. he said yeah i'll still have to pay the fine because that is only for a warning, which this was not.

and also he told me that since i am driving a passenger vehicle it is illegal to tint ALL windows. only trucks, suvs, or minivans can have their back windows tinted. then proceeded to tell me that tint is illegal in all states (he typed it in the citation lol). guy seemed to definitely be talking out of his ass most of the time so we'll see.

yeah see i can see why you dudes like tinting your shit and if it was legal i'd be all over it, but is it really worth it to have something permanent (?) on your car that gives cops a reason to pull you over whenever?

Seriously do this, call the station and speak to his superior, make a complaint if you have to. They are there to protect and serve US, state your case in a calm rational argument with another officer or superior at the station. It's at least something you can do before you go to court. there is no reason to fine someone right off the bat for something of that nature. I wouldn't doubt that officer has had complaints already. At the very least make your voice heard, our taxes pay their salary.

Don't be a dick, consult your parents on a polite way to state your problem with this ticket, of course for this to work you would have to be willing to take off your tint.

What was everything they fined you for exactly just those two tints?

thats interesting. back windows like back windshield or back seat windows?

in MN the tints in the back can be darker than the ones in front. pretty excessive fine though. rough.

My boys gotta bench warrant but its for the wrong name, the other day we were walking home at like 4 am and a sheriff pulls up, says a buncha shit about robberies in the area blahblahblah, says he knows we are intoxicated but will let it slide hes just gotta check our records. the sheriffs in the car lookin at the computer and my boys like either this shits not gonna come up or we gotta run on this one. hahaha luckily it didnt show up.

yeah i was fined for having 16% window tint, and having tail lights and reflectors spray painted black.

that's what he wrote for nature of offense.

there's no reason to warn either. Warnings are for the most part, officer's judgment. He doesn't owe you 1 warning or anything. Hell, for all he knows, you could be warned 50 times without getting a ticket, so he gave the ticket himself. Nowhere does it say in the laws "well, if it's your first time...maybe just a warning will suffice, I don't know. Ask the officers."

true he could have, but if he warned you and told you to change it, would you have? I doubt it. You'd have gone home, told your friends how you got pulled over, then forgotten all about it. He was making his point.

from the sounds of things, apart from getting some info wrong, this particular cop doesn't sound like a douchebag. It seems like he explained the situation well enough, and answered your questions regarding changing it. AKA doing his job.

and yea, he probably has complaints, most officers do, because every dumbass who gets pulled over or something for doing something illegal feels that they were wronged. The odds of him having legitmate complaints that go beyond "this guy gave me a ticket when i was only going 15mph over the limit" are probably low.

Just do what I said. Write to your DA. They are the ones who ultimately make the decision to prosecute or not. It's really that simple. Most of the time they understand and appreciate your letter because it's a lot less paperwork to file and they still get paid. In NY it doesn't matter if your ticket is dismissed, you still have to pay the $85 fee or whatever it is. Absolutely fucking against the law and ethics but it's NY, what can you do.

My sister got out of a ticket driving my mommies mini vans a few years ago. They wrote the ticket out to my mom, who wasn't even there.

my friend got out of a rediculous ticket that should have been a major suspension cuz the officer wrote down the wrong date

you can tint your driver and passenger side windows in your car in pa. they just cant be past a certain percent. i believe its 35vlt but im not sure. the back windows can be as dark as the want as long as they are not on a door. excluding hatchbacks.

Im pretty sure tinted windows and tail lights are a secondary offense and you cant get pulled over for just those. usually you get a ticket for speeding AND illegal tints

dude just so to court and ask for a trial by jury says we all have a right to one and they will just drop the charges because it will cost more for filing all the court papers than what they would get out of the ticket

If you were in NY I would say ask for a 1201A and then if you couldn't get that then a 1110A but since you aren't just look up the laws for PA

are you dumb?

it's not like i spray painted them with black spray paint or something.

shit let's light pass through...you can still clearly see all of my brake lights, turn signals etc.

i'm gonna guess you are assuming i got a speeding ticket? because those are both fines and like $100 a piece. so i'd be right back where i started, i might save like $20 lol.

haha yeah i shoulda read more my b

also, use that information for future references, attorneys charge money to tell you that haha

I always utilize an attorney. Speeding tickets, careless driving, MIP. Hit up ur resources. I bet you have a buddy whos got a dad thats a lawyer. Theyll give you a good deal and it usually just goes away. Look into it especially in the future for speeding tickets. Also in michigan you can have a dr prescribe window tint which means you have to carry around a piece of paper saying you have sensative eyes however it means no more window tint tickets!! i dont know where you live but i would look into it. call your family dr and tell him you have to squint when you drive and see what happens.
