Can everyone cut the "Tuckerman's" shit

We are damn proud East Coast skiers, start acting like it.

There is no 'S. There never has been. There never will be.

It is simply Tuckerman Ravine.

It is named after a botanist. He studied lichen.

Skiing was not done in the bowl until 28 years after he died. He has nothing to do with skiing. It is not his bowl. It is simply the bowl.

Tuckerman Ravine. No 'S.

No one calls it Huntington's Ravine, so why the love for Sir Edward?

Please, I am wicked proud to be from New England. This is something some Joey who skis the Adirondacks would say. So it frowns me to hear it locally. I am not going to correct someone in speaking because I am not that kind of Masshole. However, it should be known.

Go forth, take only pictures, leave only boot packs

but seriously people get with it

You know what makes me mad, op? People who criticize the way other people speak, and use sentences that make absolutely no sense in the process.

That said, who fucking cares?

I more so just wanted people to know! Whatever colloquial term fancies most is something I will just have to deal with

I know there is no 's in it, but it just sounds awkward when you say it that way....Tuckerman Ravine

Tuckerman Ravine

Tuckerman Ravine

...

Tuckerman's Ravine sounds so much more correct, even if its not.

Exactly. And OP, if you are indeed a masshole I'm not sure how much validity your argument has. I've been a NH native all my life and I don't give a fuck what you call it as long as you're having a good time when you're up there!

Well i know is that the mountain deserves some respect and the gnarliest skiers in the east call it Tuckerman Ravine. I don't get why you would call something by its improper name.

Not to thread jack here... but... never skied it before and I'm looking to go up in late may. any tips or advice?

A good day up there totally depends on the weather. I would go more late april to mid may for the best. Late may you might not be able to hike all the way to the top of the bowl. But seeing how the snowpack up there now is a little above average for the year it might be good until then.

I would get in used to hiking with a heavy pack too.

I personally can't wait to go this year. I want to make a few trips and ski some sweet lines including the dutchess and maybe dodge's drop if i have the balls.

It is an appropriate jacking.

But yeah what Chris said for sure. My understanding was that May 15th was the BEST day last year.

Check out timefortuckerman for all your basic info, but the regionals is a good place to check out last year's thread or whatever.

The Tuckerman ravine hiking trail to Hermit lake is a long longer than you'd imagine. Then add your skis, boots, poles, the clothes you'll actually ski in, lots of water, food and nug. It adds up

I'd try to go earlier because being able to ski back down to the parking lot is the greatest thing ever. After a two and a half hour hike up to Hermit Lake and then up the bowl, being able to ski down in 15 min is fantastic.

The hike isn't really that bad. I can't afford AT gear and my parents certainly aren't going to spend that much money on me so the last time i did it I hiked up with crampons. If you are hiking make sure you have something on your feet for traction. Crampons, Snow shoes, whatever.

Late MAY? Damn thats late. Ill be trying to organize a meet up as Tux is the last stop on my tour of New England but im looking at the very latest the last week of April. Ill post in here when I get the thread up.

Ya. I go to school in PA and I won't be home until the second week of May. So that's the problem.

Normally I wouldn't imagine that it would be with it... but they seem to have a serious snowpack still and it doesn't look like it's going to warm up for at least a couple more weeks.

true but like said above being able to ski the Sherburne trail above makes things so much better, opposed to hiking down. But still im sure it will be sweet either way

Just to address the point on grammar, it also pains my soul to hear somebody call the place "Tuckerman's", but I think the mistake comes from the affectionate shortening of the name to "Tuck's" and I have to admit that even people who ski there year in and year out like me are guilty of the mistake.

With that behind us, an uncle of mine was up there this past Saturday. He sent me the below picture showing tons of snow on all the major lines in the bowl and mentioned that there was still snow all the way down the Sherburn trail to the parking lot. There was also a slide in the bowl that day (some snow broke away on Sluice, but I don't think anyone was hurt). It's important for everyone going up there to check the avalanche advisory at http://www.mountwashingtonavalanchecenter.org and speak with the ranger stationed up there if you get the chance.

I'll be skinning up there for some spring skiing either this coming weekend or the next depending on the weather. Here's wishing everybody some fun and safe turns around Mt. Washington over the next few months!

Good to see an up to date pic. Shit looks so good still, maybe Ill have to go up earlyer rather than later, dem drops look goooood.

I really hope I don't have lax the weekend you schedule it. I may have to arrange a doctors appointment....

My current plan is 2nd or 3rd weekend of april. Id really like to try my hand at one of the smaller drops if I can grow the nuts for it. They look nice and soft right now.

Not many "small drops".

The terrain is strictly gullies. Unless you plan on going over the headwall. Which in the spring is usually about 15 feet to a 50 degree pitch that is weeks of refrozen corn and other bullshit conditions. The center gully variations might have some mini golf but it's more par 3 type stuff. If ya picking up what I am putting down.

The drop on the line the skier's left of Chute is super fun and manageable. It's only like a 10 footer, but you're cooking by the time you land. Runout is usually pretty prime though. That's my favorite feature to go after in the ravine. Getting stoked just writing about it.

I'm looking at the weekend of 4/12 and 4/13 (weather depending) for a Tucks run. If you see a guy in the bowl wearing a camo vest, give me a shout!

I want to ski tickermens. I heard that you could ride a snow-mo-bile up to the hermits lake. Bu then you have to walk. I can ski all of the black diamonds at Pico. But the double blacks scare me. Could I ski tix?

Have you actually been up there with your eyes open? Or are is your last name Keller? There are all sorts of crazy little drops that you can just blast off.
