Can anyone help me with picking out a Camera

For X-mas I'm looking to ask for a really nice Camera as my one present. I'm looking for a camera that is very portable and can take real nice pictures (of course). I'm a pretty big begginer when it comes to cameras so a user-friendly camera would be a plus. I'm going to be doing a lot of hiking in and out of the BC around Sugarbush and the Mad River Valley. I want to start documenting where I go and what I do with my friends. Thanks in advanced for any help!

it depends what type of pictures you want to take

if you want to take some extrordinary pictures that are simple to take get the nikon d80

the nikon d60 is good

but the d40 only 6.1 mp

but ya if you want to put in some money you could get a great camera which is the d80

get a nikon D80

really really nice beginner camera

D60 is nice also

i have a D70S but they dont make those anymore

i like it a lot tho

def go nikon!

quality and portability dont usually go together but if you want a point

and click digital which i think is what you are interested in then go with a nikon.

d40 d40x and d60 arent very good, no af motor is a real bummer because it dosent let you use any old lenses, if i were i would try to find either a used canon 30d or a new nikon d80

He's asking for portable and user friendly and you guys are suggesting SLRs? A canon G9/G10 might be a bit better in both respects. I'm sure Nikon offers something similar I am just not familiar with Nikon.

i thoroughly enjoy my canon rebel. there's a couple versions of it dependng on what price you're looking at

Thanks for all the help! The Canon Rebel looks sweet! 500~ is probably my tipping point with price maybe a bit more. All my gear that i got for X-mas last year is still in Prime condition so I was brainstorming what i should get. Once again thanks!
