Camping Near Timberline

How feasible would it be to slum it in the woods for a week near Mt. Hood in the middle of May? Keep in mind that we would not have our own form of transportation and would be relying on public transport and a good ol' thumbs up on the side of the road.

Super feasible, everyone does it. I don't know how the snow pack is this year down low, so can't say which camp sites are available. Sometimes snow makes it so that you have to go further down the mountain to camp in May.

Just make sure to have some respect and clean up after yourself... no trash left behind or else the privilege of ski bumming in that region will face some serious adversity.

At hood most of the camping goes down near Rhododendron which is a good distance from timberline, about 16 Miles. I’ve been riding the Mt. Hood Express (bus to timberline) for like 3 or 4 seasons and the nearest stop is a mile or two from the campsites. I’ve never actually camped in the forest but from what I understand it would be pretty hard to catch public transportation from there. I’ve also heard of camping in govy, which would make getting to public transportation a lot easier but it is also a lot higher up the mountain which I would imagine would make camping harder due to the weather especially considering we’re still getting powder right now. Anyone correct me if I’m wrong on something here.
