Campbell, oh Campbell.

Like I said before, let the core companies fend for themselves man, they haven't been here for very long really. All the other ski companies had to do it, but skiing was even less of a market then. I am gunna say K2 probably has more skiers as a part of it then Ninthward just because its so huge.

Well the Gotama is pretty much just that, unless you want more of a 2x6 then you can get the sumo.

Most of the core companies, realize here everyone before you FREAK the shit out, I said MOST, hardly even make a big stiff burly ski That people with strong legs would want to use aneway.

Volkl Kicks any small companies ass anyday. I mean really its all the same the core companies aren't even that damn core I don't know where you get that. Its just younger guys doin it all over again.

response: THE ARTICLE IS FOR THE READER TO CHOOSE, THAT IS THE WHOLE IDEA. QUESTION THE MASSES, CHOOSE FOR YOURSELF. THIS PIECE IS FOR ALL THE SKIERS WHO GET NO LOVE, WHO CAN ONLY BUY ONE PAIR OF SKIS , OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKET, THEY WILL ALWAYS BE A PRIORITY TO ME, THAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS, WHEN YOU DO GET YOUR SKIS JUST QUESTION, ASK WHO AND WHERE THEY CAME FROM, ONLY THE NEXT GENERATIONS CAN PROVIDE PROGRESSION.

Well I would like to back with that with...Why question the masses so? Isn't choosing for ourself making the masses what they are, because its our choice, and the big companies are still the ones makin it. I beleive as a skier I get no love, and I pay for my gear out of my own pockets, I just choose the ski that rides best. Its really hard to make a claim like your clients are your priorities when your sales pitches first off, are not about your clients, they are about YOU, and your prices are no lower if not higher then other companies.

Now when I look at Ninthward, and think who and where does this come from? I see skateboarders, baggy clothes, lots of talking, stories about compton, and I say my skiis? Compton? No thanks.

And progression is found in many forms from everybody, it is very possible that K2 or Volkl could make a intensely more progressive ski then Ninthward, and it is still run by older people.

Now you if you are who I think you are should not see this as a diss, you should look at this and be like, well this is a rider that does not ski my ski. Why doesn't he ski my ski? What is the big problem that so many people have with Ninthward?

i think you should all shut up and think what you want about the artice, campbell, the riders, and ninthward in general, but you're not gonna change anybody elses mind. people think what they want, you can't change there mind. stop the bullshit, pointless arguing.

I'm pretty sure this is a "skiing discussion forum", wherein we "discuss skiing" and all things related to it... what exactly do you think is supposed to be posted in here?

well north american manufacturing is not cheap, we are currently working to produce the same ski at lower prices that is the economic objective. for all you this is a choice and an outlet, ski what you want to, but if you remain silent the masses(larger corporations will not hear you, ever< i know for a fact). I am for the skier why else would i be here doing this, when was the last time a CEO of any ski corp chimed in to even say hello, they dont.

j lev did, but then again i see your point. i dont even have a name or face for rossi or any larger corporation.

hemlock, what you wrote is in my opinion extremely dead on and makes alot of sense.

this is one of the bests threads to hit NS. i think its inspiring change. theres everything in it. smart posts, lame ones, well thought out rebuttles...i mean, its actually learning somethings about our industry instead of asking "aww man what was TJ rockin at X? new orage?".

so many viewpoints

So you're trying to tell us that they don't listen..??

Is that a fact?!

Here's a few examples of the "large corporations" listening:

Atomic coming out with skis sold in sets of 3 so when/if one breaks you don't have to wait for warantee.

Dynastar, in their booth at SIA had pictures of newschoolers.com with people bashing their edges and in the very same booth skis with reinforced edges.

What other skis in K2's lineup have a sidewall construction or rivets to help prevent delam???

Maybe these ideas don't work, but where do you think they get their input from? What, do you think world cup racers want reinforced edges under their boot or 3 skis?

I really laughed at his comment about us not taking the extra steps to fix delams and only placing a rivet in the ski. Haha, I thought that did help? Hahaha. In fact, it worked so well that a few other manufacturers have done the same to increase the life of their skis. It really was an uninformed article on the nature of the buisiness and he didn't need to be taking specific shots at some of us, especially if you knew what he is up to. Things reveal themselves over time.

I am always excited for independent companies to do their thing, it creates healthy competition for everybody, just don't loose sight of the fact that we all ski, even that kid on race skis and that man riding his skis he just bought and will only use once for the year, they ALL make the industry go round. Excuse me, now I have to go and "consult with our million-dollar firm that designs graphics that are out of touch with the youth." No, in reality I have to get back to drawing the graphics myself and planning our ad shoots so I can go ski.

so making additions that prevent failure basically mean that they will fail(a weak point which needs engineering or manufacturing quality), and that there is an admitance to that failure by visibly adding such fixtures or sparkel to mask the underlying defects.

seems to me 9th is a dope company while they really care about our opinion they aren't gonna lose sleep if ur hattin cause why waste ur time with hatters. but for some reason ppl hate b/c they do what they do and aren't gonna change b/c they aren't 2 faced but thats just my outside opinion so take it o leave it

cheaper to warranty 200 rather 2000, but still cheaper to re-invent the engineering of the actual ski lay-up. lay-up is the actual contruction as designed from raw material to the pressed product. alot of these "cool" additions to "fix or progress skis" race ski shops have been doing for years,i.e., usually as a repair of a laminate failure. a ski is basically a heat pressed laminate. there are technical features that you can add to a ski to keep it from a laminate failure, and they dont include because it will increase the contstruction cost of the ski for the manufacturer, the stores and you or retailer. a laminate failure should not fail by design or even use. cosmetic, minor changes cannot disguise the actaul facts that the glue just is not holding to the required engineered specs. that is true in every industry that uses heat-pressed-laminate construction

artists and art will alwsys be a second comodity to large corporations, many do not work on salary, and sell individual art to just pay the bills,

rather you back 9 or not we want what is best for the progression of our sport and do feel that individual thought forums is a good avenue for consumers to voice their opinions, really, keep it up . it will only result in better skis for you,

the gotama and sumo are nowhere near the stiffness of the ANT. much much softer. the ANT is in the realm of Legend Pro and Bsquad (in the longer lengths).

anyways you cant complain about the beefiness of a ski anyways, your on a 168 gotama, and from what ive seen, you ski quite well on it.

in your other post you say a company like volkl could be jsut as progressive. well ya, they could...BUT THEY HAVEN'T.

the sumo? great idea. to bad line did it 3 years ago...maybe thats why its called the prophet. pollard was like "yo, this ski is dope. im prophesizing every other company is going to copy this in the next 3 years"

the dogan? hmm price point butter ski.......original 1260, or uh THE FUJATIVE

if a company has not done something distinctly progressive for this specific branch of skiing yet, they never will and they obvioulsy dont care too. why not let small companies that have to go out on a limb and design something different, just to get known and respected, do all testing and risking in the market, then if it works we'll copy it.

YA!

well, im not gonna read all this drivel, but heres a little history.

Softer? Mebbe a little, but not much. And yeah sorry I don't keep my profile up to date, I have better things to do. But yeha. I would say I hold my own on them, sorry I wouldn't throw with you guys, I had like 10 grand worth of camera stuff on me. So .... yeah

im really into ninth as a company, i like thier image, and i like the products the put out and i really like thier team. they seem to be pretty dope, although i have yet to see a pair in person. however, im not stoked on all this claiming that this campbell carachter is doing. i mean sure, i can understand trying to hype up your product, but most of the thigns that got said in that article were largely based around speculation and untruths and furthermore were the stock responses that are guaranteed to create controversy. without naming names, its clear to see that hes taking shots at k2 moving thier production to china, dynastars edges, and just general hate on any company that makes race skis and twins. its a proven fact that asian production has increased to a point where its of higher and more consistent quality than that of the american production... so forget that. secondly, he needs to realize that there can be a symbiotic relationship between the larger "corporation" ski companies and the smaller "core" companies, such as: core companies create more hype for the sport, increases popularity. big companies put more money into sport, creates more publicity and popularity which results in an increased sales in core companies etc... dont hate, relate. lastly, its pretty hypocritical to hate on companies saying that they arent progressing the sport when your coming into the game 8 years after the fact.

however, im still gonna buy the lt next year. 92mm waist park ski is very cool. so big ups to 9th for coming up with some cool ideas for skis, but dont take the saying any press is good press to seriously.

Produce a good product, with good price, and I will buy. It could be made by Ping golf for all I care. If the ski is solids it really doesn't matter, cause in the end, I want the best for my money. And to those who say companies don't care, trust me they know the industry, Burton are no longer "core" cause they did it better than everyone. K2, Salomon, Head, Volkl, Rossi, did not get where they are today by producing shit, and by not understanding markets. They got there by being dedicated to skiing, long before kids thought it was cool to ski, there the ones who were integral in the pushing of twins, cause they had capital to do it (line was there I know) but without the money from companies like salomon, we wouldn't have what we have now, like the open and such. please just ski, cause in the end, your gonna have skis and there gonna be fun

way softer dude, but whatever. I wasnt saying you were a bad skier. I was saying you were a very good skier. I have seen from your photos. my point was that you cant really complain about the lack of giant big mountain destroyer sticks because you ski on 168cm gotamas, and you do it well, so why would you need a 198 B squad, or ANT

haha brian you ski 165 pocket rockets well, so why would you need elizabeths, gotamas..and soon to be 190 prophet 130's!!!???

my point was that I don't even ride 168's any more, they fit me a few years ago aso I kept riding them till they were broked, I ride 176's and 183's now. But I still wouldn't ride a 190 that a little large, but I think the Sumo has been around quite a while anyway.

my head hurts from reading all of this. but... just out of curiosity, how many of you who are hating on 9thward have actually ridden their skis? i bet a lot of you wouldn't be bitching about the company if you had actually skied them.
