tanaka says HVX, super8, and arri 16s

anybody know the main one used

Most of the footage they are using is on the panasonic HVX200, which has been clearly stated.
Its really easy to see the difference in the shots when they are using a different camera, since they are using the hvx's in HD and their other cameras (which im not positive what they are, but some third party filmers could sell them their shots as well). Im guessing there are some DVX shots in there too and probably still some 16mm. Watch it on a computer and you will be able to see the difference the most.

Man i love my hvx, and they have theirs loaded with accessories as well.

Level 1 did for sh6 and lss. I don't know about the newer ones. The hvx has really taken over. They're not crappy camera's. The technology just isn't there for a camera like that.

uhmmm you ever seen real time? Ever heard of Isenseven productions? They make fx1s look good. You just got to know how to use the camera.
And i dont think they are getting reds. In fact i know this whole year they were filming with HVXs.
Ha one red with housing and lenses and stuff costs over 20 gs.

for some reason i really dont like hvx footage, half of enjoy looked like a video game, its like super sharp and just not natural looking, like it has a very digital look to it., i even like dvx footage much better.

i agree with the fact that the HVX shots are sharp...but i think its a good kind of sharp, not that cheesy, cheap shrap found in alot of skate vids and vids shot by kids who dont know how to use vx's.... Sony's new XDcam is the way to go now if it can be afforded

yeah i think its just the way cheap HD cams look, hvx's are still pretty damn cheap for a true HD camera, when you see actual movies shot with digital cameras that cost tens of thousands of dollars, though they are HD and have super high resolution they have a soft, somewhat film look to their footage.

Im pretty sure Field Productions still use an FX-1.

I doubt any ski companies will go to the Red cameras next year. They will only upgrade to the Sony EX.

HVX used in the right way can look as good as any full production HD camera out there. Its all about who's hands it is in, I have one and I know that I am not using it to anywhere near its potential. So I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the cheap look as a general statement about the HVX, or else why would most music videos on MTV these days be shot with the HVX, or that movie that just came out in theaters, Cloverfield, shot a good part on the HVX. A ton of people get cameras that are way out of there league, therefore they put out stuff that doesnt look as good, I've seen footage off of canon's handheld HD cam, the HV20, that could rival what most people get on $20,000+ HD cameras. I guess its all about what look the filmer is going for and if he knows how to achieve it.

Berman has always shot sony HD, just switched to the EX1, Fatman shoots the FX-1 I believe, Rage along with Poorboyz and Field all shoot with the HVX, maybe not exclusively but atleast in part. Once again, its not the camera, its how well its used.

yeah i know any camera in the right hands can look amazing, but im just saying that most the footage ive seen with an hvx didnt impress me, like in yeah dude and enjoy, it just looked so fake and digital, it was more like i was playing a video game rather than watching a real life ski movie.

it might be that its digital looking footage used in a sport thats surrounded by nature that makes it wierd.
anyway i think the bigger companies should just stick to 16mm, im sure everyone would agree that its definatly superior to HD.
still between all the footage from a dvx and an hvx ive seen theres no question that i like the dvx much better.

I think most the people on these forums need to do some more research before they jump to conclusions about certain cameras based only a small handful of examples.

They are incredibly similar. What footage from a dvx are you saying is better than an hvx? Are you sure you're not confusing the footage in the movies for another camera?

a friend of mine has a dvx and just looking at footage from random people like the hungry sloth stuff. and for hvx footage im judging it by movies like enjoy, and yeah dude. the dvx just looks much more pleasing and natural, it pretty much looks like film. the hvx footage ive seen just looks unnatural and fakeish.
high resolution doesnt really mean higher quality, look at super 8 cameras, alot of people including me would find good super 8 footage much better looking than any super expensive digital/HD cameras footage, and the resolution for super 8 is waaay low.
and i think from the footage ive seen the super high resolution makes the picture way too sharp.
im not saying that hvx's are bad or anything, im just saying that the footage ive seen doesnt impress me, im sure its very possible to get much better looking footage from it, but i just havent seen any yet.
