Cameras are over rated

maybe its just the friends i hang around lately, but why is everyone so CRAZY about getting pictures and footy of themselves. why not just ride.

seems like a facebook thing.

why?

"Pics or it didn't happen".

It's because they want to have it to re-live moments that were good and / or show them off to other people.

I like shooting, and if people want to ride for me so I can get shots it's a win-win situation. I don't think it's more complicated than that.

I like to reminisce on a good day of skiing. I never film myself anymore (sold my gopro for my glidecam, great transaction), but when I did I had a blast doing so, I still sometimes watch my old gopro clips/edits from a year ago.

I can see why and all but yea its to show other ppl. its an oppurtunity to express your lifestyle and great moments ... but seriously its all ego .

riding should be for you and even more about your friends you share it with, but as soon as someone brings out a camera i just ask who cares.. lets just ride. Then again im sure you all have facebooks and wanna show skills...

Sounds like someone doesn't have any friends to film him or any friends to film. ... Seriously though come on man why would you post a thread about cameras being pointless in M&A?? Not only is it an art, and a way to express yourself, but why would you not want to re-live the moments that you love and share them with other people in a creative way?

can't tell if trolling or not...............but without cameras to film people, we wouldn't have The line Travelling circus, salomon freeski tv, wallish wednesdays, EHV, Nice to meet you, all that shit, and your saying it's ego? what the fuck does ego have to do with being filmed? i can film a 5 year skiing a blue run, would that still be ego? people want to relive memories, be creative with editing doing artsy ass shit, or just keep people up to date with what's happening with them......

people film for all the NSTV's had to start somewhere, without them, you would not be able to enjoy videos on NS as much as you do...

you sound like a conceded asshole writing this.

you honestly think that people spend thousands of dollars on gear because they have a big ego? hell no. some people are so dedicated to shooting that it's just something that they do, it's part of their life.

what you're saying is comparable to saying, "whenever someone goes skiing in saga or on twin tips its just like, who cares? it's not about the gear, it's about the skiing." i don't think that's true at all. the way you dress, the skis you ride, the gear you bring, and the decision to bring a camera up and shoot your friends or yourself, it's all a form of expression. it's a way to take what you and your friends do and express it to the world, and show everyone what skiing is about.

honestly ask yourself, without cameras and skiing, do you think that riding would progress like it is? people see edits daily, and they say, "that was cool, i want to try that" or, "that was awesome, i want to go skiing there". cameras are immensely helpful in spreading the skiing "ways", and, IMO, they're a vital part of the sport.

if you don't like cameras, we can't change that, but don't go whining on newschoolers in M&A just because you have such a problem with people filming and shooting. go ski somewhere else, ignore it, it's not hurting you, so don't be an asshole to the people who love it.

haha yes! very true "god"!

look at all the dates of these haha. i too used to be ridiculously brainwashed by all of the stuff. im 20 years old now and that picture was when i was 16. yes I did a lot of stupid things when i was 16. what about you?

Funny you say this...I film like a feind, most of it is non-skiing and much of it is downright incriminating. What's this about Facebook? Last I counted I have made over 100 edits; less than 20 have been uploaded to the internet because I don't care if I'm the only person who ever gets to see them. I'm emotionally tied to the footage, and nobody else is, so why bother?

To me videos are like photographs in a family album. It's fun to depict reality in artistic ways and revisit them later in life. None of that involves getting "likes" online...

On the other hand, while I may not agree with your post, I do agree with your title. People are WAY too concerned with equipment.

you can still ride and have a great time with friends AND film and shoot too, i mean a little too much filming and stuff can be annoying but not too much is fine, its just a way to show what your doing and how much fun your having. Also the "Pics or it didn't happen" is a good reason. Its a load of fun too to get your pictures up for everybody to see and comment. Its a good time overall.

I don't mean that people are too concerned with caring for their expensive equipment. That, I feel, is completely sensible. What I meant is that some people are under the impression that they need a ton superfluous accessories and expensive, top notch gear in order to make something that is at least decent. "Gearheads" I guess they're called...
