k so i know there are a billion other threads and ive search barred, but

im thinking about getting a dvx 100b, but should i get an hd cam instead?

i have the hard drive/ computer ability ( 620 gig hard drive, macbook pro)

but is it worth it to get an hd cam?
 
personally i would go dvx, but thats just me. i m not really all that much of a fan of HD, i mean i like it, but i think dvx footage is way better looking. also if you get hd keep in mind that you have to have the editing programs that work with HD
 
im pretty sure the DVX is plenty for what you need, which im assuming is ski movies. correct me if im wrong.
 
if you're just looking to make ski flicks, go for the DVX. But at the same time, standard def is well on its way out. So maybe invest in an XHA1 or a used Fx1 or something.
 
i was looking into the a1, which seems pretty sick.

i would be making ski flicks yes, but also shorts too.

and does final cut pro support hd? i thought it did
 
i mean the local camera shop has the a1 for 4799, but i would probly get it online ( maybe B&H, it seems pretty legitimate).
 
BH is about as legit as it gets for camera shops. i went to the actual store when i was in NYC, my god its sick. anyways, both the DVX and the A1 are very good cameras and you will not be dissapointed with either. Keep in mind however you are going to need a tripod, maybe some lenses, a solid backpack filters, extra batts, the list goes on.

I would go with the DVX cuz honestly I think the footy off one of those looks alot better than some HD cams that I have used. Plus if you get the DVX, you will have money to get some really nice lenses (Century Optics Fisheye or Wideangle are the shit!) a nice tripod, some extra batteries, a good backpack for carrying the camera around and whatnot...
 
The DVX100b is my dream camera. I have a VX2000...it's nice and all but I would marry a 100b if I had the chance
 
yea im pretty positive im going to get the dvx, cause the a1 is like 1700 more, and then id need to upgrade my macbooks memory and shit plus, the footage ive seen off the dvx is fucking sweet, and ive seen good and bad from the a1, i think it would be alot trickier to get real nice
