get a canon. though i like some nikon features over all i like canon better. also what is your price range? are you looking for a digital SLR or film?

Nikon and Canon are pretty much equivalent, its the photographer and not the camera that makes the pictures what they are.

for the price range i will probably be able to pay up to about 1000 and im not sure whether i should go with film or digital.

you really don't have a film camera in your house or one that your parents will let you use? Just to practice and such?

a good model is the fuji finepix s5000, or s5100. They are pretty good for intro photog stuff, you can mess with all options (shutter, aperture, full manual.....) so you can learn pretty easily.

um...hello? Leica is the best....but if you're just starting then I would recommend a Nikon Digital.

are you crazy Leica is not a camera to start out photography with. I started out with a canon a60 which was a decent camera for the time and now I am using a nikon d70. I would highly reccomend getting a canon a95 as they are a brilliant point and shoot camera. If you do not have any experience with photography dont jump into the game of DSLR, you will be lost and possibly get turned off of photography. To see what experience can lead you to here is my portfolio,

i am going to disagree with you there, i would get some type of eather nikon or canon SLR b/c slrs are not very hard to figure out, also if u start with a film slr and eventualy switch to digital u will be able to use the same glass...... if u did not do this and just went streight to a point and shoot u would be essentaly throwing away cash when u switch to the slr world.....

what i did was i got a N55 nikon film SLR and then i moved up to a D70

This winter i wanted to take som pics of my buddys on skis, and i found out that the digital camera i had sucked.

so i got myself a nikon d70 and it is the best fucking piece of shit i have ever bought.

So i was a newb who bought a dslr, and i started messing around with the shutter and apperature and shit, and i love it!!!

your father is a sick fuck for taking pictures of his daughter in a bikini and your grandma is a slut for being so close to breast like that. i bet shes thinking ' mmmm my granddaugther sure does have nice breasts, so firm and perky but too bad they dont beat mine cuz mine hang down to my knees and when im standing naked it looks like i have 2 sets of arms' - Lateralis

I started with a nikon n65 film, and learned with that. I took photography at schooll, but film is too expensive for me so i got a d70. I couldnt be happier with it, its awesome. i would start with digital for sure, becuase its so much easier to try something and see instant changes and results. a dslr is simple as long as it has alot of automatic functions, so you can progress to your own settings

nikon is hot dude... i have a digital Nikon 4600 its pretty sweet... not the best but it does its job

I didn't say a Leica was the best for starting. I was simply contridicting what other people said about "canon being the best cameras out there". I clearly said to get a Nikon for beginning. Not Leica. And no, Nikons are not that complex. If I can use one, anyone can use one.

there are no big diffrences between nikon and canon.....and the body is not nearly as important as the glass!!!! is all about getting good glass.

^ummm...actualy there are a ton of big differnces between the two. flash sync speeds, camera lay out, how fast the AF works, how well the AF works in low light, custom functions i could keep going but i think that is all i need to say.

Any way i would start with a fully manual camera. you learn alot from using one also when you get your camera also get a good photography book and read it.

snap crackle pop

the only diffrence that i could see is that some digital nikons can sync the flash at 1/500th of a sec. the other things are all prefrences...... but what i have been told by a few people is that the nikons are better for flash(b/c some can sync at 1/500 of a sec and faster and has a transmiter for a nikon speed light built in to the camera (only some of the digtal, not with the nikon film camera)), but that the canon has better AF system.... regardless for a biginer it wont make a huge diffrence.

I seem to see more people in the sports world using canon, but both are good.

for example Chris O'Connell(sp??) uses canon and jeff winterton uses nikon......both are amazing photographer......its the photographer not the camera....

get film. fuck digital. digital is whack. jst get an old slr first, use the crap out of it, learn everything you can about taking photos. develop your own and DONT USE DIGITAL. i may be the only one that hates digital but i am the only one that is right. darkroom work is so much more fulfilling than fuckin photoshop.
