Camera Stolen

Last night my roommate had a bunch of randos over while I was taking my girlfriend out for valentines day. When I came back the next morning my camera was gone off of my desk. For some reason they left my computer and my other valuables. Ive been looking on craigslist and already contacted a buddy at the local camera shop. I'm mad bummed. Unfortunately I knew where the people lived and went over there to ask for it back. They said it wasn't them and straight up lied to my face.

Anyone else ever had this happen to them?

Any ideas?
 
A couple months ago my gear bag was stolen out of my car. It was actually covered under my parents home owners insurance (although there was a hefty deductible). I'm a senior and will be off to college this coming semester and this has made me wary of bring my new camera gear with me...

You could buy some wire from a hardware store and take some paper towel rolls and some spray paint and a button and paint the tubes and run wires arround them and run into their house pretending to be a sui bomber..... that might freak them out enough to get it back...

Don't be too concerned. Usually there are cabinets or closets that can be locked shut if you are particularly protective with your gear.
 
If you're sure that you know who it was like you say, just bluff and say that the dorm video feed got them walking out with it on camera, and that you won't press charges if they give it back. Only do that if you're sure you know.
 
One time i wanted to set my camera down i its bag and hit a few rails, so the rope tow attendant offered to hold it so it wouldn't get wet, then he claimed i never gave him a bag. After i bothered him for awhile he just gave it back.
