Hey so my setup is currently a Canon Rebel T5i, i have two lens. I have a Canon 18-200mm and i have a 50mm f1.8

i was woundering if you guys can recomend any other lens or a certain setting on the T5i for doing videoography. If you guys can recomend both lens and setting on T5i that be great! Thanks.

Looking to make a sweet edit with the proper equipment...

Not to be a dick, but the best way to learn is to try it out. Read up on basic photo stuff, like the exposure triangle, and how it relates to video. For example, shutter speed affects how motion looks. Watch some edits, feel free to message people on here if you like them and have a specific question, like how to get a certain shot. Same for lenses. There are some that everyone on here likes, such as the canon 70-200 l's, or the tokina 11-16. Beyond those, watch edits, if you like the look, check out the lenses they used (for specifics and general things like focal length). also, just go out, shoot some things, se what you like and what you don't. Last thing would be do you have any other gear, and what is your budget?

Tokina 11 16 is a must have for most lower budgetish dslr videographers. For settings for video make sure your shutter speed is 2x the fps you are shooting. So if your shooting 60fps then set a 125 shutter speed (the 5 doesnt necessarily change anything) there is a ton of other dslr video rules. Look em up

This, with both the lens and setup suggestions.

The 11-16 is a great sharp lens for follow cams and any other wide angle stuff. Your 18-200 will get the job done for everything else. Granted, it's probably really cheap glass, but you won't know the difference if you are just starting out.

As far as settings go, try to keep your ISO as low as possible with your aperture around the 5.6-11 range. Incorrect white balance looks terrible and is a bitch to correct, so make sure you set it for the conditions. Also, PLEASE make sure you have some kind of filming rig. Even just a little handle will work wonders.

Never erase unwanted clips from the camera. Honestly I'm not sure why, but it backs up your memory card and you will get the "movie recording has stopped automatically" message. Format your card before filming with a low level format, but make sure you get all your footage saved somewhere (computer, hard drive, whatever) before formatting, as it deletes everything.

Just a few basic tips. Hope it helps

Make sure you look into downloading some good picture profiles they may seem pointless at first but the more you get into it you will realize how much wonder it can do to your footage, a few good ones that are personal favorites and free are Prolost setting this one you don't need to download and do straight in camera, the Marvel picture profile is nice, and my favorite Technicolor Cinestyle.

Not to threadjack, but I have a t3i with magic lantern installed, and I'm wondering if it would be ok for the camera if i installed Technicolor Cinestyle on it also? Magic lantern already voided the warranty, so I really can't fuck up this camera.

It's a picture style, completely legal as far as I know, and if you follow a good step-by-step you'll have no problems. It's a great style if you grade it too. Don't try to look like stept by shooting flat and not touching it.

You'll be fine with ML and whatever picture profiles you want to use. I run ML on a 6D and 60D concurrently with a host of custom picture profiles. Totally understand the fear of using third party software on a camera though.

If i install magic lantern on Canon rebel T5i, will it enable the ability to shoot 1080p at 60fps? or is the hardware in the camera not capable of doing so. I also dont have a good understanding on the big benifits for installing magic lantern on the T5i and also the big dissadvanteges of intalling magic lantern on the T5i besides losing your warrenty.

I won't let you shoot 1080/60. It will give you a shit ton of useful features, just do some research. The risk is losing the warranty, and a slim chance of bricking your camera. This RARELY happens. Never heard of it other than just reading online. You'd have to really fuck it up.

I have issues with magic lantern on my t3i,i thought it was bricked but I researched online and found out how to do a cold or hard reset and it works. For the reset you pull the battery, turn to camera on with the battery still out and hold the shutter release for 30 seconds then put the battery back in
