Camera Reviews in Review section?

Looking at how we are addressing the Technology categories of the Review system. Do you guys think that being able to review Video/Still cameras would be a worthy category? If so would you use it to A) Post Reviews and B) Read reviews for research purposes.

We'd likely restrict it to bodies only as we are trying to keep things as focused and relevant as possible with this new setup?

What do you think?

I think reviews are valuable for ski equipment, as the equipment talked about is often exclusive to NS and can't be found elsewhere. However with the wealth of detailed camera reviews all across the net, I really don't think it would be advantageous for a 20 year old film/photo kid to give his opinion on his camera IMO

Bingo.

Although, if you ARE doing it, I'd include lenses and gear, so people don't have to recommend the t2i, 11-16, 17-50, 70-200, 50mm, 055xprob 501hdv glidecam 2000 and rode vm to everyone which happens pretty damn often.

Yeah, don't get me wrong it would be a cool addition and it would probably get used a decent amount. Cameras are just such a broad subject that it should really be left to pro's to make unbiased reviews based on real world usage. Testing also requires access to loaner gear from places like borrow lenses or companies themselves which I definitely don't have so...

I can see it maybe from a Ski Photography perspective, but even then Dan Carr does great reviews which a lot of time focus specifically on action sports use...

If you guys want to add something else for media, PLEASE and I'm begging here, up the resolution in photo section, it just kills our images we spend a lot of time working on. It's really no different when the video guys asked for HD...

Really the idea here is more for people to post their opinions on the gear they use. We are not trying to build another CNet or any of the other sites that do true product reviews, our review system is more for people to say "I have this, I think ________ about it". We see so many "Is this a good camera for skiing" that people could have access to a resource of skiers opinions on the equipment they use.

Ya, it'd be cool but honestly the only parts I would be really interested in would be reviews by pros and comments on durability in a ski environment.

I wouldn't bother with them when there are sites such as DPreview that take months to meticulously analyze a camera.

What kind of valuable opinion are spotty 15 year olds going to give on their Rebel?

This absolutely should happen. Why?

Because other websites don't have specific information about using products as SKIERS for taking photo/video of SKIING while ON SNOW.

Sure, you can divulge information and apply it if you have the time and the wherewithall, but if you're just new and looking at getting into using a camera or a lens for skiing, this site is by and large, one of the biggest sources of ski information on the net, no matter how much bullshit can be spewed between the lines.

Try looking on the web for "using a glidecam 2000 for skiing" or "camcorders for recording skiing". it's all likely going to link back to Newschoolers.com and M&A anyways, so why not have an option to link directly to things on here so less threads will be made about what stabilizers, cameras, mics, and lenses should be purchased for kids just getting into the idea of shooting on-snow related photography and video?

Implement this, and I will absolutely use and contribute to it. Other experienced folk should as well.

To all the assholes who are downvoting people in this thread who support the idea, why? If you don't care to participate, DON'T. Nobody gives a shit that you don't want a cool feature that could help people out.

This is a good point, there's a lot of camera stuff that can be used in different ways for skiing.
