Camera recommendations?

To all the photographers and videographers of Newschoolers, what are some good camera recommendations? I'm looking to get into filming and shooting photos, but I honestly have no idea where to start. I'm aware that cameras can also be quite expensive, so I'm not looking for something super high end. If you have any suggestions for cameras let me know.

Media and arts is where this should be. Everyone is going to say get a gh3 but if you are interested in photo just as much as video look into the sony a6000. Its a beautiful camera great dynamic range and awesome video quality in true 1080.The gh3 has better video but crappy image quality for stills. You can also get a cheap t3i or another type of canon, good image quality but not as great of video. After using Nikon canon sony and Panasonic I am sticking with sony. (Lens choices are still scarse though) welcome to the camera world dude!

I have a t3i and love it, I would recommend it

Fuck this. Fuck t2i and t3i. Actually fuck canon. a6000, gh2, gh3, are way nicer. Canon glass is best tho.

Love my canon glass and the fact I had magic lantern on my old t3i helped a ton, although I have to chime in on canon. Fuck them from t2i all the way up to the 7d. They all share the same sensor so its basically spend extra money for an extra button or two and get the same quality. I went out and tried the new 80 d and the 7dii still not true 1080 and my a6000 had more clean of footage even with a kit lens lol. I loved canon but was glad I divorced it when I did.

It all comes down to opinions with peoples past with the product. Personally I rocked a T3i for 4 years and it was a work horse, never let me down was amazing tool to grow with and teach myself from stills to videos. Still have it in my bag to this day. I recently upgraded to a sony A7sii, and throughly enjoy it. Clearly not the cam for you with just starting. I would do some reading and video watching on T3i's as well as the GH3. Its DSLR vs Mirrorless with those two options. Whatever route you take invest in glass. Glass is just as important. Also enjoy the heck out of it and have fun thats whats most important.

Is the 80D really not that great? I was looking at getting that for my next camera as I do shoot a lot of video but still go out and take lots of pictures. Just by looking at general reviews it looked like a pretty dope camera honestly.

I find it really difficult to justify buying an 80 over an a6300 for photo or video.

I'm stickin g with a6000 until the a6300 drops in price a bit. Dont need 4k right now and record audio externally so I'm set

Meh, not necessarily true.

ya, I like contax zeiss lenses/leica r lenses much better for video, the focus rings are buttery smooth and they match pretty well

Cant wait till I can afford some Zeiss glass!

^^ Nevermind man found a video review that showed it does support External Michrophones. Looks like a hell of a camera, may need to invest in that.

I work in a camera shop and while the 80d is cool it really is no better for stills than the 70d. It seems to be optimized for video but even so it doesn't hold a candle to the mirror less rivals at the same price point such as the GH4. I wouldn't buy the 80d
