here's a question for you. i'm looking to get a video camera for the upcoming season, what's the best one under a grand?

every consumer model of canon is better made than any sony. canon puts a lot of time into their cameras becasue that is how they started business. You will get more for your money buying a canon.

couldn't have said it better. I love my GL2, but if all you want to do is make a edit for you and your buddies, and aren't worried about professional like quality, just get something like the Optura 500. You'll save a lot of money, and still get good picture quality. You can find 'em on e-bay for like under $500
