Camera microphone for recording music

Hey folks, I plan on recording a friend busking outside with my nikon d5100. I am looking for a decent mic that will capture the sound better than the stock microphone on my camera. Can anyone point me in the right direction that will get me a good quality sound? i'm not looking for the perfect sound, just something that will do the job well.

Thanks

I don't know shit about audio recording, but you might want to consider getting some sort of external mic not connected to your cam so you can have consistent sound if you plan on moving around while filming.

Put the mic in a good spot and sync it up in post.

i do but this will be mainly for street recording. i got big plans for this other mic

I'd get a Rode NTG-2 with an XLR - 3.5mm adapter. More versatile and lasting than a videomic pro or something similar.
