Camera help?

Im gonna invest in a proper videocamera. Can anyone recomend me a good camera with good quality that isn't more than 2000dollars? I'v been filming for a long time but just with a small shitty camera and I really want to get more into it. Please help?
 
VX2k has pretty poor performance in cold weather (heads have a tendency to freeze up) Gl2's alright. You should consider a panasonic camera though, DVC or DVX if you are looking for an SD tape camera
 
If you're going to shoot miniDV, then the Panasonic DVX is the only SD camera worth buying. It doesn't shoot HD, but it has similar manual controls to the hpx170, and will certainly beat any almost any other HD camera under $2k in terms of image control. The amount of color tweaking you can do even beats some of the ~$6,000 HD cams I've used from Canon or Sony. It has been used to film The Office and It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia, along with many others I probably don't know of.
 
For HD video, a good bang for your buck would be the Canon T2i or 7D. Both cams are ridiculously cheap, even with a good set of primes. The only drawback is they have aliasing, which makes the image look incredibly sharp, but also too sharp if you aren't careful, causing false imagery. Another drawback is that you will have to be more careful focusing, or stop down for run-n-gun purposes. The internal image controls are super limited also, but then again it's only a $1,500 camera.
 
i'd say it's more so of knowing what you're doing rather than shitting on the lack of user-freindly features for price.

And I'm sorry, but the myth that the cameraman is more important than the camera is a total lie. It's true that a crappy filmer with a nice camera will still make crappy footage, but that doesn't mean a great filmer can use a crappy camera and make good images. At most, they will make good images in terms of that crappy camera, but it will still look like crap. While this is an extreme example, my point is that the DSLRs lack important features like wavelength monitors, zebras, or 4:2:2 color sampling, although for some skiers these may not be important. They're still really nice cameras, in fact that's what I'm going to shoot for my next project, but they lack some important features that many users hope will be granted with firmware update.
 
do you happen to troll dvxusers a lot? thats all they bitch about over there, firmware updates this, firmware updates that.
 
thats because it isn't just a bunch of kids point-and-shooting everything. Fact of the matter is that these things are important to some people who want to progress instrumentally. No, I'm not just counting pixels dammit. Those people piss me off.
