i might be able to buy one of these for about 600 bucks. the reason its so cheap is because the firewire port doesn't work ( i could get it fixed but it would cost $$$). I have some questions for anyone who has used this:
1. Has anyone used this camera in the cold?
2. Is the footage good in low light conditions?
3. Does it work with iMovie?
4. Is there any other way to get footage off the camera without using the firewire?

Thats pretty much it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hmm, hopefully i can either find one really used or maybe i could use the cameras from my school. 2nd idea isnt half bad, thats probably what ill do

You don't need an HDV camera to capture. It is simply playing back the information to the computer. 99.99999999999999999999999% sure.

Same goes with 24p. You don't need a camera that shoots 24p to capture it. 100% sure.

You fail, HDV can not be read by a normal DV camera, you NEED HDV to import HDV.

My bad I assumed and I failed. I don't deal wth HDV footage.

The truth about capture cams:

Yes it does wear down the camera, but it doesn't just magically make the camera explode and stop working. It simply just wears down the heads (what records and plays back on a tape based camera). Unless you are going through countless tapes and are filming for a full length movie you should be good. A new camera can take some wear on the heads. People with old cameras such as a VX1000 are the people who should be worried about their heads.

Once again my bad about the HDV thing.

fuck.

i didn't read. you're buying used.

i would pass on this camera since the firewire is blown.

look into the canon HV series.

i'm retarded today.

alright, thanks for all the advice guys but im probably not going to get this camera because the price just went WAY WAY out of my price range on ebay. but thanks anyway.
