Camber question.

i just got my dumonts and the right ski has about 2-3mm more camber than the left ski.

on the right i can put my finger under the highest camber point without it touching the base, on the left ski my finger is 2-3.. taller than the edge. the left ski also feels a tiny amount softer, but it could just be me.

should i send them back? what do you guys think?

should i use the books on the end, book in the middle method? like what they do to rocker skis, but reverse?

No you don't need to do anyhting. Just sit down and take a deep breath, you'll live. It's not a big deal at all, they're gonna lose camber in about three weeks anyways.

congratulations! you've just successfully figured out how to convert mm to inches. dude breathe. it's not that big of a deal. don't try to fix them. don't send them back. i know of a certain michiganite who slayed pyramid on two completely different skis. a couple mm's of difference in camber isn't going to hinder you at all. forget about it.

But it's a brand new pair of skis, they should most definitely be matched. Especially since it's summer and you aren't exactly skiing them tomorrow.

Call Salomon and complain, 1/8 inch is actualy an unacceptable variation in my experience, especially from a company that large. They press those skis in automated machines all day and then match them up afterward. Either some quality control person didn't do their job, or just as likely Salomon sold some mismatched pairs to an online clearance dump and them sold them to you for half off whilst maintaining a killer margin and not telling you ahead of time they are mismatched.

Surely your skis will decamber with time, but they should do it at the same rate by starting the exact same.

nope, i skied one reverse camber ski and one no camber ski for like 10 days this year till they broke, didn;t really make a difference.

its not that he will feel a difference. its the fact that they were supposed to be made the same and they werent. obviously the press has the same amount of camber, so why are the skis different? That is the issue. He's got time, you may as well deal with it.

ryan, maybe your skis broke after 10 days because one was defective? maybe? I don't know, but its not right and you bought skis that are supposed to be right

Yeah i'd definately have them replaced. If you're paying for something new that you are expecting to be perfect, thats what you should get, not just what seems close enough.

i just called untracked.com and they said to e-mail them pics and they'll send them to salomon who will probably send me new skis.

yeah, i agree. if they'll send me free skis i might as well, im not going to ski them soon anyway so i have plenty of time.

why? its free. and i didn't say like you better give me new skis or ill pop you in the mouth. i asked what i should do and if it was a big deal. they said i probably wouldn't be able to tell the differance but since they're brand new they should be perfect. so it was their idea. i dont see why you care so much.

are you fucking kidding me? i listened to all of you. i messaged the salomon guy on here and followed ou guy's advice and called them up. you would have done the same thing. and dont be a dick.

And that is the entire point. If one of them is that much different it is a construction issue that whether is immediately felt or not vary well lead to structural integrity issues in the near future. He contacted Salomon and it was their call to fix their quality control issue, an issue that should have been caught by the store and remedied between the manufacturer and the account and not by a customer complaint.

This is Newschoolers, not Toocoolforschoolers. All of you haters are lame. Talkin shit like "if they were my skis that were all factory defective and shit I'd be that much cooler for not giving a shit, jeah!"

Ask him what shop and how they are handling the situation. I think most shops would take care of something like that fairly quickly. i alos know of very shops that are going to measure the camber of the ski before it leaves a shop. 1/8" is not visible when shipping.

i work in a shop and we'd send them back immediately. the whole reason companies have warranty departments is to deal with situations like this. it's never up to a shop to decide if something should be sent back or not. i maintain my previous viewpoint regarding sending these back, but if you wanna do it, a shop should take care of you with no problems.

I was saying that 1/8" is not visible when you are pulling a pair of skis off the rack. It is visible if you were to put them on a perfectly flat surface but not when they are pacakged together.

haha still, if you can get new ones, send them back. no question about it, anything they send you will be better

unless they already did
