Hahahahaha I've been entertained by these little kids for the past few weeks with their "free diecuts" and "sponsored team riders," but fuck, stealing peoples editing and putting your shitty logo and shitty name on them? You guys need to get your act together. I hope this kid takes you to civil court and you get your asses handed to you.
 
I understand that totally but trying to end the kids dreams of being a filmer/editer is a lil harsh IMO, and im sure that because he gave him permission to use the video that BayArea also thought that, that meant he could just throw his logo on it...im sure he didnt think it would be such a large problem as it is and if you send him a PM and talk to him you will get it resolved very quickly because he is a very understanding kid
 
he didn't steal the edit...Coxworth(rider) gave him permission to use it...its just a misunderstanding and will be fixed
 
but it is not coxworth's footage, it legally belongs to OP.

Just because a journalist takes a photo of barack obama does not mean the photo belongs to obama
 
He stole it. The filmmaker/account holder (me) is the one who has to be asked for permission. Kyle gave him permission to embed a youtube video, and he decided to make it his own video.
 
this is true but like i said before the kid is young 14 or 15, so he probably had no idea that he had to get permission from the OP, cuz im sure if he knew that he would have asked them as well because the kid is a super nice guy...he meant no harm by this i can assure you

it was just a misunderstanding and it will be taken care of!
 
He didn't do it to taunt OP, he also didn't know what the real world consequences are for these sort of things.

He did though wave it around like he edited it, which he didn't.

I'm not saying take the kids fucking house, he needs to at least do with the video as OP pleases. whether that be take it down or give all credit to the OP and his associates.
 
I think the general scandalmongering that has resulted from this thread is a fair enough punishment considering his age.

Having said that, most 15-year-olds know full well that this is a no-no. Hell, when I was 15 someone who was OLDER than me did this same shit with my footage.
 
To be fair, most of us were not producing full length ski films at that age. I'm sure this kid is just really amped on what he thinks is a great idea, and is just too impatient to wait until the upcoming season to get a website up with all his own edits. Yes, his threads are annoying and his "production company" is sort of a joke as of now. Yes, this was a pretty sheisty thing to do. At the same time I don't think it was done maliciously and he didn't mean to harm OP's reputation in any way. If anything he probably thought he was helping him out in somehow. I think the thorough thrashing the kid has gotten here tonight is enough to teach him a lesson. Now just let him take down the video and his website, change his username, and start from scratch the right way.
 
But the kid didn't film anything. He used a bunch of your shots and slapped them together. He took OP's edit and just put his "company" logo on it. If the kid has dreams to be a filmer/editor, he should film and edit kid from his local hill or mountain, not get kids to send in footage that he didn't film.

Bayarea should get fucked as hard as humanly possible for this. Stealing another skier's/filmer edits is not alright.

I made sure it was completely okay for me to use his edit by asking Kyle Coxworth. Im very sorry if you took it in any way copyright or anything at all but he told me it was okay. I have pm's if you really dont believe me..
 
Even though the edit is of Kyle, he, legally, has no rights over the video. It doesn't matter if Kyle said so, I am the one that has all the rights to it.

The video is belongs in full to Nik Lampard.Kyle saying it's fine for you to put your name all over and claim as your own is like me telling my friend its cool to take my other friend's car, carve his name into the side, and say it was made by him, and then write in small letters somewhere, the name of the original owner, but also say that it belongs to you in the same spot.

You are full of shit. You have no clue how copyright works, and I hope to god that you are 12 so that I don't have to just believe that you are actually mentally challenged.

Im sorry for the understanding Nik and I know it is super shady to do something like this. Kyle is a super sick rider and i was stoked to have him interested in what i was doing. Sorry again for any misunderstanding. The video has been deleted and all credit on anything is fully given to you

What the fuck consequences are you talking about? Even if you didn't know the consequences, that is still implying that you knew you did not have the rights to the video.

I was stoked to have such a sick rider be interested in what i was doing. I took his word when he told me everything was okay..yes i definitely should have asked the editor but i got the impression that they were good friends and they were chill about it..im sorry once again

I'm mad because you put YOUR logo in it and gave credits to yourself, when you didn't do anything to help to the editing of that video.

seriously is this necessary? the kid admitted he was wrong and took the video down, the kid learned from his mistake and probably won't ever happen again. Give the kid a fucking break and lay off him, he is stoked on this and you guys just cant accept this?

Yes, i agree he should have asked the OP if it was alright for him to use his video, but I also believe that this is somewhat Coxworths fault too and he should also be somewhat to blame but that is just IMO...

Leave the kid alone, i realize it's summer but all this hate for a kid that made one mistake is crazy...everyone has to learn from his mistakes and im more than sure he did

Seriously BayArea, just delete your website all together. You obviously fucked up, everybody knows, maybe people will start to forgive you if you just delete any trace of your supposed "film" company, chill till the winter, make your OWN edits, put some real work into your becoming an actual filmer and editor.

2. Cut the footage on a video editing software.
3. Upload to a Video sharing website.

(note: having a stranger you messaged on the internet complete steps 1 through 3 does not make you a film production company, nor does having a website URL.)
 
More of a how to make an edit rather than how to become a production film company.

film firms are a lot more serious than some 15 year old who makes shitty ski edits
