Calling NS for Mac Help

So I'm thinking of upgrading my computer in my room to one of the newest iMacs, I'm just not quite sure which one yet.

I'll be using it mostly for web browsing, msn, music, and video downloading. I also want to edit the occasional movie (maybe) but nothing serious I don't think. I also want to do some photo stuff, but again nothing serious yet at least.

Which one do I get? There's so many Ghz and memory options, and I don't know much about the "insides" of a computer.

Thanks for the help.

i have the 1500$ i mac and i use it fo photoedinting and vid and music it is great i would either buy the 1500$ i mac or any of the mac i have photoshop and other apps and it runs perfect buy the i mac now but go to the mac store and if u is a college student u get money off and a free printer and a free i pod so go and buy one

You get atleast $100 off of the original price, and you get a one year limited warranty and you can purchase apple care just like any other computer.

It is a mac, the quality reflects the price. Also the cheapest is 2.4ghz intel core duo with 1gb of ram and its 1200. Hardly a "light computing" computer. Mac doesn't make a light computing computer.

They have none in the "refurbished" section, plus then you have to buy a screen, mouse and keyboard, so it all adds up to almost the same price in the end.

the cheapest imac will do pretty much anything you want, but it is expensive. mac mini might be the way to go, then just ebay it for the mouse, moniter, keyboard. or use the ones off your old computer.

I recently went to mac because my computer (pc) kept shitting the bed and became a hassle after 7 years of owning it, with multiple upgrades. Honestly it sounds like you wont use a mac to its fullest, nor will I ever. Just get a desktop load that shit up with parts from new egg. Hop on a 19 inch monitor and BOOM...I got a mac laptop because PC laptops are very difficult to customize cost effectively.

no one is going to change anyone elses mind about which they prefer....there are thousands of threads about mac vs. pc. NO ONE EVER WINS, mostly because everyone is too stubborn to change their minds.

I didn't really ask for opinions and other options, I just asked which one would be enough for me. So I'm assuming the cheapest one will be fine for what I do?

Money isn't a matter, my parents owe me a new one cause they're giving mine to my sister which cost $2000+ so...

I don't care about that. It's still much cheaper than what I paid for my PC that they're forcing me to give to my sister. So they're buying me a computer, I'm gonna get one I like, which is an iMac.

I'm in Canada just so everyone knows, and on the refurbished Canada site, there is also a 2.0 ghz with 1gb memory for $999. Will this meet my needs or should I pay the extra $150 and get 2.4 ghz and a bigger hard drive?

personally i love my macbook and it seems for the stuff that u want to do (which is basically what i do) and if you dont mind laptops id get the macbook cause its got all the same stuff as a imac and the cheepest one is like 1000

im kinda in the same situation.

gotta decide what i'm gonna do with my work money this summer.

a) get the nicest black macbook

b) put the money in tha bank and start gettin interest for a car.

i would, if your parents are paying for it. it would make me feel better to know that its new. especially get it if the processor's cache is upgraded from 2mb on the furbed to a 4mb on the new. that makes a bigger difference than the .4 increase.

computer or a car?!

I dunno what your computing needs are, but if you're like most people, all you need is firefox and word processor. An macbook is too much computer for those needs. It's a waste.

I'd go for a custom spec'ed HP laptop and save the rest torwards a car. I dunno if where you live a car is really a necessity, but I'd put a car far far ahead of a computer. You'd be amazed at what you can snag for a couple grand these days.

I was referring to his light use of the computer. Hence light computing.

I guess if you like the looks and the UI then sure, that's pretty the only reason I'd get a mac. Don't bullshit about specs.
