In my opinion religion, God, and any belief system that is "the only belief system" is absolute bullshit, with only a few of exeptions. Literally hundreds of millions of people have been killed because someone else didn't like their religion. God does not exist with natural selection and evolution as my proof.
 
Please don't make any more God threads, they are incredibly counter-productive. I don't think the minds of NS will solve any of the problems associated with religion, so I wouldn't recommend touching that subject with any length pole.

Can I ask you a question...do you know the difference between God and god? "god" can have nothing to do with religion.
 
Now I'm not saying Im right or anything, but I've always thought of the whole God and Heaven thing something that people make up because they are so freaked out that they're just going to rot in the ground when they die, that they make up some crazyness.

No, honestly, i don't know the difference between the two. What i do know is that people are scared that this life is all you get. Every bit of evidence for this side of the angument is there.
 
there is no point. How do we even know life exists. If everything we think, feel, smell, taste, hear, see, is just a bunch of electro-brain activity, how do you know the real world isn't just a big empty space of mushy brains sitting around with activity?

and heaven might have come from the revived. Dont hold me to this, this is off the top of my head, but I heard theres like 30 minutes of brain activity after you die. If you dream thousands of dreams in just 1 night, imagine how many things you dream while you are in this dead(ish) state. Then some person could have become revived after dying, just minutes later (its happened) and say "they saw heaven" or something. And even when this 30 minutes of brain activity ends after death, you aren't gonna care. You aren't gonna be scared. You won't exist, because your brain and everything that is you is gone.
 
by the way I want to emphisize that I'm not saying that this is THE TRUTH but its just my personal view on things. To say its right would be as ignorant as most religion freaks who look down upon those who don't believe. I don't have a problem with religious people, just those who give non religious people shit for not believing the same thing.

most people think, great god will come from the sky, take away everything, and make everybody try, but If you know what life is worth, YOU WOULD LOOK FOR YOURS ON EARTH
 
if the only belief is christianity then it has to be all true or all fake, nothing in between. Natural selection has every piece of evidence behind it while going against christianity. Muslim: Die for your religion and get a few virgins when you die: just triggering a man's hormones, so for him crashing a plane into a building=sex. I think those are two concrete examples. What's your argument?

Living in eternity would get boring. Besides, if we all act like theres something beyond, we really dont concentrate on making what we have now better. I like the idea of this life being all I get.
 
yeah i think that religion is a bunch of BS. people are so brainwashed by churches and stuff. people didnt know the answers to how we got here (and niether do we) but they just made up a bunch of stories

AND, untill you experience some sort of adversity to overcome in your life, as in someone close to you dieing, or you becoming severly injured, you will not realize the importance religon has in the world.
 
It is impossible to prove that God exists and it is impossible to prove that God does not exist.
 
religion has done a lot of good for a lot of people, so to condone it is really stupid in my opinion. regligion gives billions of people something to believe in and something to LIVE for. heck not to mention the laws we abide by and the social standards we follow originate from the cornerstone of many of the more prominant religions... (the bible for you dullards). please someone tell me they would enjoying living in a world where murder and rape goes unpunished?

and religion has made some people do stupid things. They hate gays, pre-marital sex, abortion, etc. (Now Im not saying abortion is a good thing, Im just saying its stupid for religious people to try to ban it because not everyone feels that way. If they dissaprove, then they could just not get abortions, its that easy.) Terrorists kill people as part of their religion, and thats one that has done more bad than good. The problem with religion is that it creates a conflict that make people oppress their religions on others, or saying that theirs is right.

but the "terrorists" kill people because their religion makes it acceptible for them to kill to acomplish its goal (which in most cases) is assimilation. i dont really consider a religion who's main goal is assimilation to be legitimate (i know im being very vague here because i dont know much about many middle-eastern religions).

its important not to confuse assimilation and unity

you should be happy you are alive today. If there is anybody on newschoolers that I hate, it is you. Every thread, every post you make is critizing the goverment or different organizations for their suposed wrongdoings. You take shit for granted. You should be happy you have a goverment that protects you. How about we ship you to Darfur? How would you like to be in a refugee camp, and have planes fly over and spray bulletts into a crowd at random times of the day? I have no problem that you dont believe in god, because the country we both live in allows that. You however take things for granted. You do not know how it feels like to be an american soldier captured and about to be killed in a war, and the only thing you have left is your faith. My grandpa fought in world war two. He came over to europe late in the war. He spent 5 years cleaning up the areas destroyed by war. But most of all, he came into concentration camps. What I learned from him is that you should never take anything for granted, because you may loose it all in an instant. So instead of being cocky, thickheaded, and complain about how god does not exist and how everything sucks because of religon, and how the world we live in is so horrible for you, WHY DONT YOU GO OUT AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE? Why don't you go build a house for habitat for humanity for a person who does not have the ablility to have a computer to complain on? I did this summer, and I even met the lady whose house I was building. Why don't YOU Donate money to relief funds, and come up with an idea for all these FAULTS that you claim. Why dont you serve, rather than sit and judge others?
 
It depends. Some people may turn to religion in an effort to save themselves, and that seems to usually turn out for the better. Other people--myself included--turn to themselves and the people around them in a time of need.

It's not religion as a whole that causes problems, it's the very vocal extremists that give it a bad image.

think about it though. just using what was previously stated as an example: if you were in a concentration camp (one of the reallllly bad ones), you're on your own in a dark room, with nobody to confide in but yourself. when you're in a situation like that you NEED something to believe in in order to go on. sometimes in every day life we come accross a situation when we have noone to turn to, it could be a life or death situation, and generally a religion of any kind will help someone get through the situation.
 
As I stated before, some people will turn to God given the right circumstances. Others, instead of relying on God to save them, will find a solution to the problem themselves. Not everybody is open to the concept of being saved by a divine being.
 
How do you get bored of living? I've never heard of anybody commiting suicide because they were bored. Plenty of people throughout history have been stuck in one place their entire lives and they managed to get through life without killing themselves out of boredom. You could easily argue that living for 80 years would get boring. And the decision the seize the moment is exactly that. A decision. It's not a predetermined "betterment factor" for life.
