Call for Moderator accountability

In this day of transparency, it'd be nice to know why your thread gets deleted and who deleted it when such a thing happens. just an auto-response mayhaps. I just posted what i thought was a not-too egregious thread about the schrab brothers, only to find it nowhere-to-be found when i search under "my threads." I understand that some factors necessitate censorship, but only those posing detriment to others/security/policies/etc in my oppinion should be deleted. oh well. *end rant.

we have to delete so many threads and posts its not quite feasible to type up reasons for each one.

Exactly,

but if you ever feel your thread/post should really not have been deleted, you can always pm one of the moderators for an explanation.

not if you don't know who deleted the thread.

definitely should have a "deleted by" notification, no need for a reason when you can request it from the mod who deleted it.

duhhhh

Ok. First I'd like to say, I've got no hate towards you guys (mods) and I appreciate you keeping the riff-raff under control. It can't be an easy job, especially becasue the nature of the beast is such that your role gets you attention for solely negative reasons (i imagine, i've got nothin' to back that statement up). I can't imagine anyone says "wow, thanks guys for doing such a swell job," you probably see the vast majority of feedback along the lines of my post on this subject, "wtf dudes, why'd you delete my thread?" I also understand that because there are so many nuances of the mod-job, it's simply not feasible to answer every "why'd my post get deleted?" question. I suppose I'm just looking for, or think it would be nice, to possibly code for an auto-generated PM that lets us, the user, know that we got deleted. Notifying us that it happened, not necessarially why. It wouldn't have to contain a reason (though that would be nice, i.e. maybe 3 or 4 pre-entered reasons, like divorce papers [don't you get 3 options? infidelity, abuse and 'irreconcialiable differences] ). It'd be appreciated to at least get a heads up; rather than searching around the forums and "my ns" for a lost thread, all the time thinking to myself, "WTF, i swear i made it, where the f' is it? Dang, i was SOOO clever," *mocking myself for being douchy*. I'm sure if someone were to get [Auto Message: your thread has been deleted for general douchery] they'd at least have a pretty good idea of the line they were steppin' over. I posted a tongue-in-cheek Schrab brothers satire earlier, and I can only imagine the reason it got haxx0r'd was because of the flood of dopplegangerthreads in that forum. I put some effort, very small amount, into what i thought was a pretty funny satire of the x-games and i was, eh, for lack of better word, annoyed that it got deleted.

I'm over it. I didn't mean to drop the criticism on you. You dudes do a sick job of running this fantastic amalgam of comedy, shit talking, gossip, news, media, and classifieds: a site dedicated to the one thing that across our broad community we will all have in common, the one thing that we can all count on, during bad times and good, something we will all live and breathe until the day we die, sking. The one thing thing that permeates every aspect of each of our lives, a lens we view the world through. I've been a member of this site for a long time, know a decent amount of the administration, and even though i'm slowly moving out of the main NS demographic I still really enjoy taking a break from: my job/injury/drama/bills/bullshit/gas prices/summer heat/etc to get some quality NS time. Say Word.

that ski unit 19 mod has GOT to go hes a fucking disgrace to this site like honestly im sure many others agree with me

Check the sticky thread at the top... really if you want to know why your thread was deleted (as if you didn't know) just ask a mod.

half the links in My Threads take me to the forum index page :( the best threads always get deleted. At least back in the day you could check out the thread graveyard.

Would it be possible to make a script or something that sends you a pm whenever one of your threads get deleted, telling you who deleted it?

It did.

However, there was so much incoming hate messages from users, that we stopped it. Everyone feels that their thread should have stayed for whatever reason, yet everyone complains when the site is full of crap.

So we have to make the decisions, and we will not let you know who it was. I know this can suck, and its annoying when one of your threads get deleted, but for the sake of keeping the site good its the way it has to be.

I'm afraid there's no further discussion to be had here. We're stoked on you guys, just please trust us that we're moderating for the greater good of the site.

well is there anyway we could make that be an option?

like in the account settings, either have a box that is checked or unchecked asking if we want to be informed if our forum or post is deleted?

im not saying i personally would use it, but it looks to me like at least a couple of people want that option...

its not that we didn't want you guys to know stuff is gone, the reason you aren't notified who deleted your post is that it shouldn't matter. The moderators act under a shared set of rules for site usage. Alerting you who the deleter was just insights direct hate to the moderator, we act as a team in both positive and negative regards and we'd like it to stay that way.

okay, that definetly makes sense.

but what about something telling us why our post or forum was deleted?

not necessarily a custom message, but you could have multiple presets.

like sexual content, racial insensitive, that sort of thing.

im not at all hating on you guys because i think you all do a good job cleaning up the forums, i just know a couple of my posts/forums have been deleted and i honestly have no clue why.

isn't that "set of multiple presets" the general forum rules that mods have outlined and request every new reader to read before posting things?

don't really want to get involved in this just read that and couldn't help myself.

yeah i guess that's very true.

like i said, i personally probably wouldn't use it, because I've had very few of my posts deleted, but it seems like other people need/want it.
