and are heavenly and northstar really as good as theyre hyped up to be?
 
sure big bear is shit compared to norcal but if you go mid week and don't mind lapping park all day it is fine, being from michigan this is what i was used to anyways. big bear is tight, allows me to live in the desert and still be able to ski in under 2 hours.

Mammoth, in Tahoe I like Alpine, Northstar and Boreal

Both resorts attract a lot of gapers. They're both good spots but I'd recommend only going during the week. Northstar is a joke though if you're looking for anything besides park. Heavenly is the best of south shore.
 
norcal is v. nice.. for pure park northstar is sick.., but v. flat if you kinda suck and just wana ski around on thepistes.. than saugar bowl.. thats where i learned and its a lovely little gem for learning.. as for pow.. i cant say.. i never skied pow until i left CA and went to switzerland.. and then oregon.. so u dono.. oh yeah.., never go to boreal unless you want to be bored out of your mind..

-Alpine (best jumps)

-Boreal (most fun, not too expensive)

-Mammoth (ridiculous)

-Northstar (Fun, but full of gapers)

Pow

-Homewood (Nobody goes and you can ski fresh lines all day)

-Squaw (huge terrain, and gnarly cliff hucks)

-Sugar Bowl (Some of the best palisades and fun shoots)

-Kirkwood (Shitload of snow)

-Mammoth (Huge storms and sick lines)

Are any mountains still open in California at the end of july? I'm going on the 22 or 24 to august 1st. Propbably won't be but I thought it would be worth asking
 
no kidding. i would not be able to survive college in LA if it wasn't for Big Bear (and a six week Christmas break). Mammoth is just too far to drive more than a couple times a month.
 
oakland is in the bay area smart ass... and the closest thing to that is bear valley.. which is totally ghey and manned by carnies
 
my point is there are no mtns near the oakland area... thats why you are stupid... and clearly know nothing about CAskiing, there are mtns near mammoth and there are mtns in the sierra nevadas near tahoe.. both of which are over 4 hrs from oakland.
 
ha, yeah your right, i dont know about ca skiing thats why i was asking. i live on the east coast and was checkin if there was any good sking closer than mammoth
 
i could ski the rest of my life at kirkwood. they have all the park i need and some of the best terrain ive ever seen. but squaw and heavenly are nice too
 
dude i dunno why that chick was being such a bitch.  anyways there's no skiing real close to oakland.  best bet is tahoe, about 3 hours if you drive fast.  mammoth is gonna be more like 6-7 hours from you.
