Caleb Moore - Critical Condition

damn, hope you can recover caleb.

“It’s almost certain he’s not going to make it,” Charles Moore told the newspaper.

damn, didnt think it was that serious since he was able to get up but vibes to him and his family. Hopefully hes strong enough to pull through and make it.

Holy shit.. Vibes to his family.. Thought he was gunna be alright cuz be walked off under his own power

A heart contusion is just a bruised heart so you just have to prevent it from bleeding and let it heal on its own.

Why didn't they try and transfer him to Denver rather than Grand Junction?

Theres gotta be better heart surgeons and brain surgeons in Denver than somewhere like Grand Junction.

Pretty depressing

that really sucks, hope he pulls through.

But what does he expect, doing flips on a 500 pound machine 30 feet in the air does not seem like a smart idea if you feel like walking your whole life.

I feel like they should take this stuff out of the x games...nobody wants to see a kid die on national tv.

kinda ridiculous that they got him up/let him get up so quickly. he definitely should have been kept down rather than up and walking like that. super sad. Positive Vibes to Caleb and his family.

don't know anything about this guy but it always sucks to see that someones in this shape from the xgameshope he makes it alright.

Hey pussy, go play baseball or basketball instead.

Right away you could tell that the crash was not good... it's the same way Lusk was killed when he came up short on a backie combo. Just a reminder of how gnarly these guys are.

I was thinking the same thing. I believe they fly a King Air medical transport out of Aspen that can be back on the ground at Centennial Airport in less than an hour. They could have had him to Swedish or Porter in just over an hour. Strange call to fly him to Grand Junction.

The lesson here is that, if the crash looked fucking brutal; assume that it was. I can't believe that nobody had the sack to make him stay on the ground until they could get him on a back board.

I've been really appreciating life lately and stuff like this has been hitting me a lot harder. I very much so hope Caleb makes it. I'm pushing for you, man.

Keep fighting Caleb. Didn't think it would be this serious at first as during the X Games he managed to walk off.

Vibes to the family.

pericardiocentesis: They take a really long needle and take some blood out. There are also "patch" and "graft" procedures they can do to try and repair the injured area and stop the bleeding. Blunt trauma injuries, particularly to the torso are more deadly than penetrating traumatic injuries.

Damn, I saw that and didn't really think anything of it considering the announcers and commentators the day after said threw around the phrase "heart contusion" like it isn't that big of a deal, and of course I don't know. Makes you really think about things and appreciate life.

I never would've though this could happen from the X Games.

Hope he turns out okay.

Relax tough guy. I just don't find it entertaining, I mean all it really is is variations of backflips with a fe whips, etc. , and its even entertaining when guys are dying because of it. So yeah, I would actually much rather watch basketball or baseball. And to whoever said it could happen just as easy in skiing, uh no because skiers don't have 500 pound sleds falling on them.

major vibes to this dude and his family.

this just further reinforces my dislike of the sport. i hate seeing this shit happen, we have lost way too many good people already.

Yeah, bro no one ever dies in skiing...

That really means a lot that you don't find it entertaining. Your opinion is really important. Everyone cares so deeply about how you feel or what you have to say. It carries a lot of weight, bro, so be careful. What you say next could change our sport, or others for that matter, FOREVER.

Can't remember the last major skiing comp anyone died at...

And I guess nobody should ever state an opinion on newschoolers again? Since very few comments are going to change skiing forever we should just stop posting forever?

Whatever though, vibes to this guy, really hoping he can recover

I never saw this coming after him being able to walk off. Prayers out to his family and him. Some seriously sad stuff.

really hurts to read this. He and his family are in my prayers, I really hope he pulls through.

You got this Caleb!

If I remember correctly, I believe that Grand Junction has the big regional hospital. Drove through it, and its enormous. Not quite as big as Denver, however it was snowing, so weather could have prevented them from going all the way to Denver.

This is a tragic story i saw the crash and it wasn't pretty. Everybody should take 30 secs and pray for a youngster.

According to my dad, there are three Level 1 trauma centers in Colorado. One of them is Grand Junction, one is in Lakewood, one is near downtown Denver. He said that Grand Junction and the one in Lakewood were recently remodeled and have some of the best modern technology available. But I am assuming that there is not a huge difference between the surgeons/staff in each location, although I would assume that Lakewood would have a better staff generally speaking.

Anyways, praying for Caleb and his family. Pass Vibes!

You know there has been a number of deaths in the big mountain comp world.

Most recent one only two years winters ago.

saw that crash when it happened it was pretty bad. thought he was going to be ok when he walked away. so sad to hear about this now. hoping he pulls through.

Didn't think it was going to be this bad after seeing the crash. Can't believe it. It makes you really respect how much these guys put on the line every time they try to push the envelope and do something crazy.
