Calculus group help/support group

I'm a business finance major. I have to take a "topics in calculus" class. I hate it. This thread is for people who struggle with calc to get help from people who are good at it. And also a therapy session for those of us who are going crazy because of the dumb math.

Fuck calculus drop that class while you still can. Calculus really isn't that bad especially if you are in a dumbed down version which ot sounds like you are. I took a Calculus class for business majors and it was probably yhe easiest math class ive ever taken

Yeah calc sucks. I love all sorts of chemistry and obscure physics stuff, but Calculas has always been my worst subject.

I enjoy math, and I really enjoyed calculus. Posting in here so if I see that somebody needs help then I can try to help. No promises I'll check my threads a lot though.

khanacademy.org is a very helpful website for not only calc, but also for the majority of math and science fields.

I don't understand why a marketing major needs Calculus, but I did for some reason... I'm awful at math, tried the class twice. Dropped it late once and failed another. I ended up not getting my degree until a year later because of it.

Fuck calc, thank god my then girlfriend now wife took it as an online class for me.

I'm an engineering Ph.D student, but IMO my mathematical intuition is not so good. PM me if you have any questions and I'll do my best.

Have one sheet of paper with all of the formulas that your class has covered so far. Have this right next to you when you are working on your homework. Also, math is one of the few subjects where listening to music helps me concentrate.

What is your UAs name? What soda does he like? What's his favorite music? Does he wear deoderant? What is his favorite hoody?

If you don't know the answers to those questions, you're doing it wrong.

Junior in chemical engineering here also vouching for how rad khanacademy.org is. Definitely look into it for loads of video tutorials and great little mini-lessons. Calc is relatively fresh in my brain as I just finished calc 4 (diff. eq, some universities call that calc 3), and I might be able to help you out with some stuff. Not on NS much, but maybe we both might get lucky and I can help you solve something.

As far as seeing relevance to marketing or economics, many things can be mapped into functions. Profit can be made into a function dependant on time for example when looking at the ebb and flow of a year's profits. Calculus can be (sort of) beneficial in analyzing maximum profit rates (which would be the slope or derivative of the original function) or finding critical points or whatever as well. These are obvious by just looking at the graph in something as simple as profits vs. time, but I'm sure it can be useful in other ways. Plus, I found taking calc taught me a whole new strategy for problem solving, which has helped me in other courses. Yeah it might be "useless," but take what you can from it.

Calc is rad.

Kahn Acadamy and Wolf Ram Alpha really helped me in college though. Super applicable math which is rad! Sorta bummed I ended up in a job where I never do math...

Like others have said. Khan academy is a savior if you miss class or your teacher sucks. Also wolfram alpha is great for calculating derivatives and integrals

Thank you all for offering to help! Turns out the first week of the class was really intimidating but then it ended up not being that hard at all

English major here, currently finishing up my math requirements with "numbers and things for dinga-lings 105". I can't help you with calc but if you ever need me to like, make a graph or find the mean or whatever I could maybe do that.

Don’t tell anyone this, but about half of calc I is that.
