You clearly have only been watching hockey for maybe the last 3 or 4 years or something dude. That shit happened all the time back in the early 90's and on. I would've dont the same thing as Mclennan. It was a cheapshot, i wont deny it, it wasn't that hard of a slash, he got right back up.
Hockey is won in more ways than on the scoreboard. Calgary is sending a message to Detroit, i also respect kip for holding it in, and what not. But you defend the guys on your team. Detroit does plenty of things behind the play. They are chippy, and they're a bunch of pussy's in my opinion. 1 calgary player can stand up for himself against Bertuzzi, and then 2 other detroit players have to come save the detroit players ass.
Detroit is a great hockey team, and thus they get away with most of the shit they pull. And to comment about your note on 8 power plays and no goals. Detroit has an astounding PK, and made some of the best adjustments to kill their Penalties. So now Calgary can analyze and respond to those changes in the next game as Detroit did. Just because they have an astoundking PK for one game doesnt make them the better team. I have more respect for teams with heart and passion and that stand for there players. Detroit acquiring Bertuzzi, a CRIMINAL, that ended a career of Steve Moore w/ a cheap sucker punch and shoving his head into the ice is one reason i have no respect for their franchise. Its one thing to slash someone, and a completely different thing to almost kill someone, and Detroit supports him. Thats just as much of a lack of sportsmanship as a well deserved slash to the chest.
