By location media search option

I'm not the only one who loves watching edits of my home mountains or mountains around me. am I?

I think we should integrate the "location" field when uploading a video to also be a way to search for a video. if that makes sense?

in other words, I would be able to search videos by region. or better yet, mountain.

thoughts?
 
would be a great idea certainly would bring a lot more hits towards newschoolers, but I think the developers are swamped with other tasks atm :(
 
This would be a great function, but think about it, most users don't always write the same way the location for exemple for someting filmed at Breckenride you could easily find "Breck, Breckenridge, Freeway etc. " this is one little problem I see. It would work but not as efficient as it could be.

The perfect kind of system would be to have a facebook style input, where you would have a database of location possible and when you type for example Breck.. you would have a dropdown menu with the best proposition !!! With this videos could be linked to a page of the resort/park were you could find all the media that was from that location !!!!

This isn't that complex to do, it will just take a S*** load of time to create and make it work !!!!

When you think about it Newschoolers.com is kinda like Facebook only optimized for the freeskiing community !!!!
 
I agree it would be a lot of work. however maybe an easier option would be when uploading a piece of digital media, you HAVE to choose a location option from a dropdown. You could have either every mountain..... or maybe insterad use the same regions as we have for forums. so I could upload my edit of killington and select the new england location.
 
Good point, but if for an example it is a film, that if filmed in different parts of the world, the dropdown menu would kind of be a bad idea. Except if it had a function : Add more locations !!!And choosing a location by country/region is still to vague a think !!!

I think that sooner or later this will be implemented in the website.

But still the best way I think is how I said with the Facebook style input, it could be very useful but I don't know if it is worth spending so much time working on !!!

 
I'm no programmer, but I wouldn't think it too difficult to create a tag search? where you could select what you want to search for, eg rider, location, filmer or even a combination. so say you wanted to search something be Evan Heath, you could select 'search by filmer' or if you wanted to search for something at Tremblant you could select 'search by location'.
 
Yeahh this would be some really cool functions !!!

Because now there is only the uploader that is linked to the media. It would be cool to be able to link locations, people that participated etc.
 
You might have some success just googling newschoolers edits with the regions name you were looking for
 
yeah i have done that in the past, the problem is that not everyone labels their edits with where they take place. also its too much of a hassle (i know one minute google search....) but i dont feel like doing that every time i want to watch an edit.
