Buying Used Skis

Hey NS,

I'm relatively new to the whole buying / selling of ski gear so I apologise in advance if this sound stupid.

A pair of 2018 ARV96 in 165cm are up for sale in my area for roughly 170 USD which apparently have only seen 20 days of riding. The ad claims that the bindings have been removed and refilled, ready for a new mount.

I'm currently rocking 2018 Chronics, and have been toying with the idea of grabbing a smaller flexible ski and for the price I feel it's hard to say no.

If it matters, I'm 165lbs and roughly 180cm tall. Would the ARVs be alright size wise?

Is there any blatant issues involved in buying 2nd hand skis? Should I be wary of anything before I make the purchase? I'm fortunate enough to live within driving distance so I will be going to inspect and purchase myself.

Thanks

The one thing that drives the price of used skis way down is how many times they have been drilled for bindings. Once is pretty much as good as you’re going to get, skis start getting really cheap when they only have 1 or zero good mounts left. Most skis I have ever ridden get edge cracks underfoot, if they have been ridden in park a lot the edges will get rounded and worn down to the point that it can’t be fixed with a tune.
