Buying Skis.

I looking into buying a new pair of all mountain skis for the winter. I want a really shaped ski so that I can really lean into my carves. That is the main purpose of the skis. I also want something that will be decent on the moguls and that I can take into the park and pipe every once in a while. I don't want twin tips. I need some suggestions of what skis i should buy. The main purpose of the ski would be carving.

I have twins and they aren't as good for carving. I have dynastar concepts(with the fern graphics). They are alright but first of all I really don't care about landing backwards. And second of all, jumping (especially spinning) aggravates my hip which I fucked up last year. So i'm probably going to limit myself to grabs and the pipe.

... I could carve going backwards before i got the twins.

tha best twins fur moguls wud prob be tha Salomon 1080 Mogul, altho i shudnt talk cuz ive never hurd anythin about em

How fast do you ski and how much off-trail are you planning? Also, what characteristics do you like in a ski, strong tail, strong tip, underfoot hold (strong center)?

There are a lot of good skis out there, but the trick is finding the pair that matches the way you ski.

i gotta ask also,

Why wouldn't you want a twin-tip? on top of carving backwards, the turned up tail gives the ski a more natural arc in turns, and releases the turn better. no chatter out of your tails at higher speeds. if you don't believe me, you need to learn to stay on top of your ski and not in the back seat.

I liked the Volkl G3 from 2 seasons ago. I thought it held up great for carving at high speeds and a little off piste. I prefer something that is wider under foot myself.

just buy womens skis. they'll do you fine.

'Dude, check out this nasty gouge.'

'Your mom has a nasty gouge.'

salomon crossmax 10 pilot or atomic sx:11

I feel bad for people who don't drink, cause when they wake up in the morning, thats the best the're going to feel all day

get the Line Darksides they are made for carving. they dont have much park ability though but they have a tail. your not gonna find a great carving ski thats also great for park it's either one or the other.

Thats the way I live my life: I grip it and I rip it.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Volant Spatula. Damn those things can turn! A kid on my race team is using them this year just for the extra edge contct through the whole turn. They're also good in moguls.

My advice: Go to a site that isn't 99% illiterate park-rats if you're asking for suggestions on non-twintips.

Manus

How fast do you ski- Very fast

and how much off-trail are you planning?- Not a lot... but some.

'Also, what characteristics do you like in a ski, strong tail, strong tip, underfoot hold (strong center)'

Sorry i'm not familiar with these terms and the benifits that come with them. Please inform me.

Dude, the ski you want it Dynastar CrossMax, they carve like a motherfarrrreker, and they're really fast, good for spinning aswell although there not twins, defiantly not!

SicYo, what do you like in a ski (where do you like the strength of the turn to feel like its coming from, tail, tip, central (underfoot)? And is cost a factor?

Pretty much all manufacturers have good skis. Figure out which of these you fall into and look into those companies:

Tip Heavy - K2 (Axis series)

Tip Heavy/Strong tail - Atomic (SuperCross series)

Tip Heavy/weak/soft tail - Dynastar (SkiCross series)

Central (whole ski) - Fischer (Rx series)

Tail Heavy (and pretty central at speed) - Volkl (724 series - The Star series isn't worth the money in my honest opinion, but they are a hell of a ski, just the price is jacked up because of the hype)

I also haven't skied Salomon in a couple years, but past experience, they were pretty centralized.

X scream 10 pilots or Crossmax 10 pilots

Hippies - they want to save the world, but all they do is smoke pot and smell bad.

Thanx manus... That's some very helpful info. I think i'd like the strenth of the turn coming from the center although I haven't tested out enough skis to know for sure. I think i'm going to check out the dynastars. I'm happy with how my concepts carve, but it'd be sweet to have something more agressive so that I can lean into the turn more and carve better.

I think this guy needs Line 1260s with the Look P12 Jib...that's what he's looking for. Speaking of 1260s, when are they going to have 1420s?
