Buying rails and boxes!!?!!?!!?!!?

This. The boxes you'll find for sale on the internets are made for parks where they will be hit thousands of times a day, every day, for years. Save yourself a ton of money and build them out of pvc and wood.

you're a fucking ignant dumbass. go ahead and spend 1000+ dollars on a 10 foot steel rail that will kill your edges in a week, or stop being a stupid fuck and learn to use a drill, and spend 20 dollars on 2x4s and 2 PVC pipes.

i cant see how someone is stupid enough not to know how to screw some 2x4s together or just look in the build a jib 101 cult.

You're either really rich, or you have no idea how much rails and boxes for resort snowparks cost. Just for a 10-12 foot box and rail you're looking at 2000$+ easy. Build it yourself, every kid with a backyard setup figured out how to do it, i'm sure you can too.

Instead of hating which is the path that most people in this thread took, I will direct you to this...

https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/cult/forumthread/thread_id/465058/ that should be all you need. good luck

most resorts build there own rails aswell....i dont know how these jib companies survive...who has 1000's of dollars to buy features...not the avg ns'er or resort. Most park managers are working throughout the summer welding together new features. Check the thread listed above, you might learn something and enjoy building it. If you take your moms mini van one night and drive by a construction site, you will find you dont have to buy anything at all ;)

really, just build one... the problem with buying rails (other than the expenses) is that they're usually only like 8 feet long, having something longer than that will be much more enjoyable. you could always buy two but... why would you ever do that?

lolwut?

do you even know what coping is?

just build a frame out of 2x4s and then leave room on either side of the topsheet and use steel or pvc tubes as coping!

I know, I'll probably do that, but I was just wondering how you would weld an all metal frame with just plastic on top and no wood?

oh!

well you would just weld up a basic rectangular prism box and have 2 tubes on top on either side. then have metal bars going across and throw your hdpe on to that and use countersunk bolts to attach it to the metal crossbars under it.

if you want a sketch i would be glad to make one..

Guru rails in vermont make some solid affordable backyard rails.

You might be better off just finding a friend that can weld a little bit and giving him a few bucks or some beer to weld some shit for you quick. I wouldn't drop a shit ton of money on stuff that's just for you and your friends.

also you can build some pretty legit shit with wood.

I've have steel piping as long as 21 foot lengths in my garage. Get a miter saw. Build the most ridiculously dope frame, screw that shit in their good. H.ve a bullet proof steel rail for your back yard.

The resorts I go to don't build their own jibs, in fact I don't think i've ever been to a resort that build their own, and i've been to quite a few. You talk as if building your own rails for a resort is free. It's not, materials for it isn't cheap, and on top of that you can add the hours it actually takes to build it. Buying them ready made is a good, durable and cheap alternative. Not every park manager is a welder and carpenter.

you can try going to a local scrap yard or metal yard usually you can get steel there for a decent price and if your lucky they might have actual handrails from torn down buildings and such

i know stratton makes some of their own rails. Most of their rails they get from the us open but they usually make one or two rails each summer also.

a lot of mountains take old features and just reweld or refurbish them into something else, that way they dont ever have to buy new ones but they can keep the features fresh

Agreed. Straight line makes very nice rails and a lot of mountains have them, but they aren't really cheap by any means.

---

A lot of mountains build some jibs in house but there are still plenty of mountains out there that put in orders for at least some rails. When you're talking about a resorts that has $$$ spread all over to try to keep things up and bring in more business, spending some $$$ to get high quality rails isn't a big deal. You know you're going to get a quality product that can stand up to the abuse of millions of gapers abusing it throughout a season.

For the backyard building it out of wood and steel or just steel and welding it is the best bet. Really wouldn't be that hard to make a ghetto looking weld that's strong enough to hold you and your friends seshing it for a few seasons.

Pvc rails suck

Acquire beer. Bring beer to person that knows how to weld or maybe a welding shop. Give them money and beer. Ask them to take 5 min and weld a couple legs to a nice long grinder bar. Thank them

shred/profit.

seriously though just go to your local metal scrap yard... picked up a legit handrail today for 40$ and then just welded feet to it...
